The first two The Sims games are getting remastered, according to a newly surfaced report. The Sims fans may get to play their modernized versions as early as late January 2025.

February 4 will mark the 25th anniversary of The Sims franchise. Electronic Arts has already acknowledged the upcoming jubilee on social media on several occasions. It most recently did so on January 27, when it launched The Sims Nostalgia Now, a five-day showcase celebrating the iconic life sim series. The event kicked off with a brief video featuring the Plumbob gems from the first two entries in the franchise. Some fans have immediately taken this to mean that The Sims 1 and 2 are coming back in some shape or form.

A new bundle of classic MySims games might be on its way soon.
Rumor: More Classic MySims Games Could Be Making a Comeback

A recent discovery is leading to speculation about a potential follow-up to last year's MySims: Cozy Bundle featuring two more classic entries.

Kotaku reports this is indeed going to be the case, citing an unnamed source familiar with the matter. Specifically, the first two The Sims games are supposedly getting remasters, which are scheduled to hit the market before the end of the month, so no later than Friday, January 31. The modernized versions of the games will reportedly be content-complete, incorporating Apartment Life, FreeTime, Bon Boyage, and all the other well-known and forgotten expansions for The Sims 1 and 2.

EA's First 'The Sims Nostalgia Now' Teaser

The pricing details of the purported remasters are currently unclear, as are their target platforms. The first two The Sims games have both been ported to consoles, though they were notably different from their PC counterparts. For instance, the home console versions of The Sims 2 had a story mode and offered local split-screen multiplayer support, as well as the option for players to control their characters directly rather than clicking on where they want them to go, among other differences. If EA decides to bring the remasters to consoles this time around, it might aim for feature parity with the PC versions, at least if modern industry trends and the company's own track record are any indication.

It's Been Years Since The Sims 1 and 2 Were Easily Playable

The Sims 1 has been extremely difficult to obtain for many a year, as it was a disc-only release that was never launched digitally. Its sequel was only downloadable in the form of The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection, a technically free bundle that was claimable by fans who were able to prove they purchased the physical copy of the game in the past. The collection was pulled from Origin sometime between 2014 and 2018. Now that Origin is being shut down, even some fans who previously managed to claim The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection are said to be struggling with transferring it to the EA App.
