Xbox Game Pass Gets Surprise Drop Today

The Rogue Prince of Persia was just shadow-dropped on Xbox Game Pass. Released for PC in early access in 2024, The Rogue Prince of Persia has steadily amassed players and has become a well-regarded roguelike 2D platformer. The Xbox Game Pass announcement comes alongside the release of the title on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

A few weeks ago, a rumor suggested that The Rogue Prince of Persia would be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch, as the title had been rated for these platforms in Australia. The latest announcement confirms the rumor, but the game will be released for Switch 1 and 2 sometime later in 2025.

Now, The Rogue Prince of Persia has been added to Xbox Game Pass, and it’s currently available to subscribers of the PC and Ultimate tiers on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud. The roguelike 2D platformer takes place in the city of Ctesiphon, as the players try to protect the city against the Hun army, and it stood out due to its addictive roguelike gameplay. Despite having aa few bugs during its early access period, The Rogue Prince of Persia has since had a very positive reception, and it currently stands with an average critic score of 81 on OpenCritic.

This is not the only game coming to Xbox Game Pass in August, though. Earlier this month, subscribers gained access to Blacksmith Master (game preview), Void/Breaker, and others. August 20 also sees the addition of Goat Simulator Remastered to Game Pass Standard and Persona 4 Golden to all tiers. Later in the month, Herdling, Gears of War: Reloaded, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard will come to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC.

Overall, 2025 has been a good year for Xbox Game Pass, and there’s much yet to come to the popular subscription service. Ninja Gaiden 4 will be added as a day-one game on October 21, while The Outer Worlds 2 will be playable via Xbox Game Pass on October 29.

A few games also leave the subscription service every month. At least five titles will be removed from Xbox Game Pass on August 31: Ben 10 Power Trip, Borderlands 3, Paw Patrol Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay, Sea of Stars, and This War of Mine: Final Cut. From these games, Borderlands 3 and Sea of Stars are particularly disappointing departures, especially considering that Borderlands 4 will be released later this year.
