The Recruit season 2 was officially announced by Netflix, upping the stakes and the mystery that will unfold across another 8 episodes.

The Recruit is the Netflix spy series du jour, all about the goings on of the ever-popular C.I.A. And the people they hire, in this case newly minted lawyer Owen Hendricks, played by Noah Centineo, and asset-turned-liability Max Meladze, played by Laura Haddock. It’s a series that’s by turn thrilling, exciting, and funny.

The question of whether Netflix would renew The Recruit has been answered with a resounding yes, or maybe a quiet teletype, depending on what type of spy metaphor one chooses to go with. Either way, fans of the show will get another eight episodes of Centineo as C.I.A. Lawyer Owen Hendricks as he navigates the shady world of espionage and truth and tries to discern which is which. “I’m thrilled to dive back into the fun, funny, action-packed world of The Recruit," said showrunner Alexi Hawley.

Hawley, who is also the mind behind Nathan Fillion's Castle and The Rookie, has background writing plots that are slightly mysterious, slightly funny, and very audience pleasing. Centineo said of the renewal, “I know I speak for our entire cast and executive team at eOne and Netflix when I say that we are thrilled to be returning to The Recruit for a second season. I’m looking forward to seeing what Alexi Hawley has in store for us all.” So do audiences based on the fact that the cancel-friendly Netflix gave the series a second round—if it can break the sophomore Netflix cancelling curse, it’ll be sitting pretty.

The Recruit is about a rookie C.I.A. Lawyer, Owen Hendricks, coming into his first week for the family-friendly firm protecting America only to find his Mayberry-like existence is turned upside down when a former asset, Max Meladze, turned up having dealt with a shady trucker in a way that saw the guy ending up on a coroner’s slab. She turns to Hendricks for help clearing herself in exchange for keeping her mouth closed about all the other shady shenanigans she’s been involved in for the agency. He tries to accomplish the dictionary definition of the Homer Simpson “It’s my first day!” Meme by helping her while keeping himself above water. The Recruit season 2 would continue from there.

The Recruit season 1 is available on Netflix.
