The Purge 5 will reportedly be called The Forever Purge. The creator of the franchise, James DeMonaco, has previously teased that this fifth installment of the popular series will also be its last. DeMonaco explained in a previous interview how he had an idea of how to end the franchise, which has also seen a television spin-off on USA Network.

When DeMonaco first came up with the idea and pitched it, he recalled he everyone seemed excited over the concept. He believes it will be a “really cool ending” and referenced how they intend to “take this one home,” indicating that this will, in fact, be the last cinematic version of his idea.

The Purge tells the story of a dystopian future where American society is permitted a yearly purge where all crimes are legal for 12 hours. The idea is to allow people to release pent up anger and frustrations which have grown over the year, often leading to horrendous crime and killings across the country.

The first movie was released back in 2013 and has since become a fixture within pop culture, with Louisiana Police recently using the Purge’s infamous siren blare to announce their lockdown curfew amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

The Forever Purge is set to release in theaters on July 10, 2020. This may change, however, as the coronavirus continues to impact most industries, including cinema.
