The Outer Worlds 2 is set to drop this year, and as its eventual release draws closer, many are eager to find out exactly how it compares to its predecessor. Since its announcement, The Outer Worlds 2 has been anticipated among RPG fans, especially since the first game proved to be one of the best releases of 2019.
2025 is a big year for developer Obsidian Entertainment. Back in February, the studio released another game, that being the fantasy RPG Avowed. The game launched to mostly positive reviews, and one of the biggest questions looming ahead of The Outer Worlds 2 is how much it has in common with its fellow RPG. Gamers will need to wait a little bit longer to find out, but once the sequel drops, it will hopefully take note of Avowed's rewarding exploration.
The Argument for The Outer Worlds 2 to Include More Endings Than the Original
While The Outer Worlds had multiple endings for players to unlock, there remains an argument for The Outer Worlds 2 to feature an even greater number.
Avowed's Surprise-Filled Exploration Deserves to Be in The Outer Worlds 2
Hidden Treasure That Rewards Curiosity
Avowed may not be a perfect game, but when it comes to exploring its world, it excels at filling its map with a robust offering of secrets. There are plenty of strong features in Avowed that The Outer Worlds 2 could take inspiration from, but the in-game exploration may be one of the best. Even more importantly, though, is that searching and exploring feels incredibly organic.
Stumbling upon treasure and loot is a given if players are curious enough, and it ultimately makes the world of Avowed feel far more lifelike. When crafting a unique fantasy world, making the setting feel as alive as possible is a must, and things like intricately hidden loot are just the details needed to help bring this type of feeling to the surface. Avowed truly rewards players for their curiosity, and The Outer Worlds 2 taking the same steps to make its world seem richer will only be a benefit.
In addition to PC and Xbox Series X/S, The Outer Worlds 2 has also been confirmed for the PS5.
The Outer Worlds 2 Has a High Bar to Reach
- The Outer Worlds 2 is set to launch in 2025.
- Right now, Obsidian has yet to announce an official release date.
Making a satisfying sequel is no easy task, especially when trying to follow up a game like the first Outer Worlds. Of course, the first game still has its fair share of loot to discover, but Avowed's approach to exploring feels more natural overall. That, mixed with the great platforming mechanics that Avowed boasts, really takes searching an area to a brand-new level of immersion.
The Outer Worlds 2 has the tough job of not only expanding its world, but also making players feel even more like they're a part of the story. Building a world that feels lived in is difficult, but Obsidian has proven before that the studio has what it takes to achieve this. The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed may not have much overlap in terms of gameplay, but when it comes to exploration, the two will hopefully be connected.
Avowed may not be a perfect game, but when it comes to exploring its world, it excels at filling its map with a robust offering of secrets.
On June 8, Microsoft is hosting a new Xbox Games Showcase. After the broadcast, there will be an entire deep dive dedicated to The Outer Worlds 2. It's unclear what details will be revealed, but there is a lot of hope that an official release date will finally be announced.
As the wait for The Outer Worlds 2 continues, it will be exciting to see what else Obsidian has in store for players. The first game illustrated what a strong space-faring RPG should look like, and with its special blend of humor and hopefully elevated mechanics and features, The Outer Worlds 2 has the potential to be one of the year's strongest releases.
