Having first rolled out in 2022, The Mortuary Assistant is a popular horror game that initially released for PC before eventually landing on the Nintendo Switch in 2023. The title puts players in the shoes of the eponymous protagonist, who must go about their routine work while simultaneously fending off evil forces. The indie game was originally scheduled to launch for Xbox and PlayStation platforms on August 2 before the Xbox version was delayed unexpectedly, leaving some hopeful fans disappointed.

The Mortuary Assistant is now up for grabs on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One after its release date was pushed from August 2 to August 15. While the Xbox port was late, the story-driven horror game managed to come out on PS5 and PS4 on the same day as intended. In a tweet, The Mortuary Assistant's solo developer, Brian Clarke, announced the game's arrival on Xbox with a video, and the comments were quickly filled with excited fans. Replying to one of the fans, Clarke revealed that "legal/financial paperwork" concerning publisher DreadXP was responsible for the game's postponed launch.

The Mortuary Assistant Is Now Available On All Major Platforms

With the Xbox launch out of the way, The Mortuary Assistant is now available on every major platform, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. As the game celebrates its long-anticipated Xbox and PlayStation releases, some fans are already curious about what's next. One comment asked about a possible release on Game Pass in the future, to which Clarke replied that there were no such talks ongoing. The developer gave a bit more positive response when asked about a possible physical release of The Mortuary Assistant, briefly stating "We'll see!" Besides this, there's also the Mortuary Assistant-inspired movie adaptation that fans can expect to hear more about in the near future.

While all delays are disappointing, the last-minute ones are particularly tough. Fortunately, Xbox users didn't have to wait too long before The Mortuary Assistant hit the store. On the bright side, as confirmed by the developer, the delay allowed the Xbox port to launch with all the fixes that the PlayStation version has received since rolling out about a couple of weeks ago. With more exciting horror game-related news expected at Gamescom 2024 next week, fans of the genre have a lot to be excited about.
