The Mandalorian and Grogu cast added Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, and the next Star Wars movie may give this character an uncommon look for the Hutts.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is the next Star Wars movie on Lucasfilm's slate, featuring several recognizable faces from the franchise's past. Among the cast is The Bear star Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, the son of the vile ganger Jabba the Hutt. Rotta debuted as a central character in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated film, where he was kidnapped in an unsuccessful plot orchestrated by Count Dooku and Jabba's uncle, Ziro, to frame the Jedi and incite conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Hutts. The Mandalorian and Grogu will be Rotta's most significant appearance in the Star Wars franchise since then and a new report claims the character has taken care of himself over the years.
Star Wars Franchise Gets Hit With a Familiar Setback
A new Star Wars movie suffered a setback that is all too familiar for the franchise's fans, but which film was impacted by Disney's decision?
Bespin Bulletin's article on Allen White's casting as Rotta the Hutt reiterates other reports claiming the character will have a substantial role in The Mandalorian and Grogu instead of a cameo. The online publication also notes that they were told Rotta the Hutt "looks sort of…buff." Because most of the Hutts have been large slug-like creatures with short arms, "buff" isn't exactly what most fans picture when they imagine a Hutt. However, there is some precedent for a jacked Hutt in the Star Wars franchise.
The Star Wars: Darth Vader comic book series introduced fans to Bokku the Hutt, Jabba the Hutt's cousin. During the Galactic Empire's rule, Bokku held a position on the Hutt clan's Grand Hutt Council. He provoked a battle between the Hutts and Imperial forces, eventually resulting in his death at Darth Vader's hands. Bokku was significantly more fit than his Hutt relatives, with longer and more muscular arms. If Bespin Bulletin's sources are reliable, Rotta the Hutt will have a similar appearance.
Allen White joins a cast that includes Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, Sigourney Weaver in an unknown role, and Jonny Coyne as an Imperial Wardlord from The Mandalorian season 3. Babu Frik from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker appears, as will the character Garazeb "Zeb" Orrelios from the Star Wars Rebels animated series. The Mandalorian and Grogu is one of many projects expected to lead into Dave Filoni's Star Wars movie, which has been touted as the culmination of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew.
It's unclear what role Rotta will play in all of this. However, casting an actor as reputable as Allen White suggests the character will be important to The Mandalorian and Grogu, and potentially the rest of the "MandoVerse."
The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released in theaters on May 22, 2026.
