If the latest rumor is to be believed, The Last of Us fans could get season three of the fantastic post-apocalyptic HBO series a lot sooner than previously thought. While viewers know that the second season of HBO's The Last of Us should be released sometime in the spring of 2025, it appears that its reported production start schedule may reveal when the third installment's cameras could start rolling again.
It's already been almost two years since season one of The Last of Us was released and what a rollercoaster of a journey that was for fans. While the series started off with the heartbreaking scene of Joel's daughter Sarah and later the traumatic event surrounding Tess' death, there were plenty of lighter and more wholesome moments that included the gradual bond between Joel and Ellie as well as all of those silly No Pun Intended jokes, which Joel grew to love. The Last of Us season one finale left its audience on the edge of their seats as Ellie came to realize that maybe the man she looked to as a father figure couldn't really be trusted after all. With season two of the HBO series not too far away, attention has now been drawn to season three.
The Last Of Us Season 3 Is Reportedly Already In Pre-production
According to Production Bulletin via Collider (due to a paywall), not only is The Last of Us season two already well underway with a 2025 release window, but season three reportedly has a production start scheduled for Summer 2025. It's fair to say many fans of the series wouldn't have expected the turnaround to be so quick given that season two of The Last of Us hasn't even come out yet - that's if the rumor is true, of course. Staying within its stunning backdrops, season three is also reported to be filmed in Vancouver, Canada, which means viewers will get to see more of those beautiful mountains, snowy landscapes, and lush forests once more. It's just a pity all of those gross zombies and blood splatter will end up ruining it a bit or, for many, an added delightful feature.
HBO's The Last of Us season two will adapt the events from The Last of Us Part 2 video game and will see the return of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie. For those who have played the game, there's certainly one heart-sinking moment that many will want to avoid in the show, but its plot details are still somewhat surrounded by mystery. However, this time around for HBO's The Last of Us, it's a guarantee that those lighter and more wholesome moments from season one will be a lot harder to come by.
One of the show's biggest announcements for its second season is that Kaitlyn Dever has been cast as the controversial yin to Ellie's yang and will step into the shoes of Abby Anderson. Other casting choices for season two are Isabela Merced as Dina and Catherine O'Hara as a mysterious figure. The Last of Us season two will also likely showcase a lot more types of infected this time around, like runners, stalkers, and even shamblers who will be making their presence known.
The Last of Us season two will debut on HBO in the Spring of 2025.
