While October is the best time of year to rewatch favorite horror movies or check out that new slasher everyone is talking about, summer is also prime time to get invested in a thriller. The Amazon Prime Video series We Were Liars, which is adapted from the young adult novel by E. Lockhart, is a great watch about a wealthy and mysterious family. There's also The Institute, the MGM+ series adapted from Stephen King's book that follows a teenager with powers.
Along with heading to your local movie theater to see this summer's most anticipated horror movies, from the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot to Zach Cregger's Weapons, there's a perfect thriller that you can binge-watch, and it's available on Netflix.
Netflix's Stranger Things Spinoff Needs To Be Radically Different In Order to Be Successful

The Hunting Wives Is A Perfect Thriller On Netflix And Needs A Season 2
Fans are enjoying The Hunting Wives, the Netflix thriller series that is based on the book by May Cobb. The series has an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 67% on the Popcornmeter. Viewers have shared their thoughts on Reddit, with Redditor @restrictednumber1996 starting a thread and calling it "twisty" and a great "summer binge." Redditor @Practical_Event9278 agreed:
"It’s messy in the best way. Perfect guilty pleasure for summer!"
Redditor @Ambitious_Rest_967 added:
"I thought it was ridiculous in the best entertaining way possible! Watched it in a weekend."
The Hunting Wives centers around Sophie O'Neil (Brittany Snow), who begins living in Maple Grove, Texas with her husband Graham (Evan Jonigkeit) and meets a compelling group of women. Soon Sophie is part of a group run by Margo Banks (Malin Akerman) that includes the equally rich Jill (Katie Lowes) and Callie (Jaime Ray Newman). When someone dies, the group's lives are altered, and fans are left trying to figure out who killed this character. It's one of the most exciting new Netflix shows streaming in 2025.
As a fan of May Cobb's work, which includes the equally fun thrillers My Summer Darlings and A Likable Woman, I couldn't wait to check out the Netflix adaptation of The Hunting Wives, and I wasn't disappointed. The tension between the rich and less well-off characters and the power that Margo wields kept me coming back. With only eight episodes, it's a fairly quick watch, too.
The best thrillers on Netflix keep you guessing no matter what episode you're on, and they quicken the pace so you're never bored. The Hunting Wives features a smart twist at the very end, and even those who read the book will be shocked by what happens. However, even before that point, fans are caught up in the fascinating lives of these rich characters.
Akerman was a big fan of the twist and shared with People:
"I loved it because I don't think anyone saw that coming... What they will actually do to protect their lives and livelihoods and social status is beyond anything I've ever seen."
In another Reddit thread, several fans shared their wishes for a second season of The Hunting Wives. Some shared that season 1 ended on a "cliffhanger" and noted that there are some plot threads left hanging. Since Sophie is such an interesting character and it's entertaining following her new life in a new small town, it's easy to hope for an equally gripping season 2. Now that You has ended and Stranger Things is wrapping up, it would be great to have another compelling show to become deeply invested in.
Showrunner Rebecca Cutter Discussed A Great Idea For The Hunting Wives Season 2
In an interview with Variety, Rebecca Cutter, the showrunner of the series, shared her ideas for a second season of The Hunting Wives. She said season 2 could focus even more on the dynamic between Sophie and Margo and explained:
"where are these two women at the start? Where are they at the end? What are the peaks and valleys of their individual power, of their relationship? So it’s tracking a course for that, and then figuring out what the crime engine is.”
Cutter also said that The Hunting Wives season 2 could feature another murder that has to be solved, which is also a smart idea. While there are a few murder mystery series on Netflix, The Hunting Wives stands out thanks to its clever twists and fast pace. It's easy to imagine the show continuing for several more seasons.
