Summary

  • Christopher Judge, known for his roles in Stargate SG-1 and X-Men Evolution, won Best Performance at The Game Awards 2022 for his portrayal of Kratos in the God of War games.
  • Judge will be presenting the award for Best Performance at The Game Awards 2023.
  • The nominees for Best Performance in 2023 include actors from Final Fantasy 16, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Alan Wake 2.

Christopher Judge, the talented actor who brought Kratos to life in God of War Ragnarok, will appear at this week’s Game Awards 2023 after winning Best Performance last year. Non-gaming fans might know Judge from his roles as Teal'c in Stargate SG-1 and Magneto in X-Men Evolution, but it was his more somber, reflective take on Kratos in the 2018 God of War game and its 2022 follow-up that has brought him increased recognition among gamers over the past few years.

This would culminate in Christopher Judge winning Best Performance at The Game Awards 2022 for his work in both voicing and performing motion capture for Kratos in God of War Ragnarok. While accepting this award, Judge gave a lengthy and heartfelt speech thanking the many people who helped him reimagine the Ghost of Sparta as a battle-worn father trying to raise his son Atreus while wrestling with the demons of his past. It gave viewers plenty of interesting insight into the development of God of War Ragnarok and its much-acclaimed predecessor, and even set a world record for the longest award show speech in history.

Now Christopher Judge is coming back to The Game Awards, only this time it will be to give away the honor that he won previously. TGA host Geoff Keighley announced that Judge will present the award for Best Performance at The Game Awards 2023 on Thursday, December 7 in a recent Twitter post, with a brief joke about his lengthy acceptance speech last year. Other Twitter users lightheartedly asked how long this year’s event will be now that Judge is giving yet another speech while still expressing their appreciation for his work in the God of War series.

Just like every other year since The Game Awards began in 2014, the Best Performance category is packed with some of the best performances of 2023. The six nominees consist of Ben Starr for his role as Clive Rosfield in Final Fantasy 16, Cameron Monaghan for his continuing work as Cal Kestis in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Neil Newbon for playing Astarion in the massively successful Baldur's Gate 3, Idris Elba for his role as Solomon Reed in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Yuri Lowenthal as Peter Parker and his alter-ego Spider-Man in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Melanie Liburd as Saga Anderson in Alan Wake 2.

Christopher Judge will present one of these talented actors with the title of Best Performance at The Game Awards 2023 later this week after winning the honor himself the previous year. Judge will likely have a great monologue planned before announcing the winner, but hopefully it won’t take up as much time as his record-breaking speech after winning for his work in God of War Ragnarok at The Game Awards 2022. In any case, fans will get to see who takes home the Best Performance award when The Game Awards 2023 airs on December 7.
