While The Forgotten City relies primarily on dialogue choices and investigation skills to solve its mysteries, there are some light platforming and action sections. To gain access to certain areas in the ancient Roman city, players must find a way to climb the fragile vines.

It’s not necessary to climb the vines in order to complete the game, but players must find a way to do it if they wish to get the best ending in The Forgotten City. The guide below details exactly how to unlock the ability to climb vines.

How to Climb Vines in The Forgotten City

The Forgotten City using Golden Bow

To climb vines in The Forgotten City, players must first find the Golden Bow. This item has the ability to turn vines and other items into gold. Once turned into gold, vines can then be approached and climbed like a ladder.

Once the Golden Bow has been found, use the d-pad if playing on consoles to switch between items until it’s equipped. If players also have arrows, they can now shoot the vines and climb them to access restricted areas, or find additional treasure.

How to Get the Golden Bow in The Forgotten City

The Forgotten City assassin with bow

The Golden Bow cannot be accessed until players get the ordinary bow from the assassin first. The assassin can be found near the baths beside the marketplace. Make sure Fabia hides in the bakery, not the shrine. Then talk to the assassin and inform him that the person he is looking for is in the nearby shrine. The structure will collapse and kill him, meaning players can pick the bow off of his body. It might take a few time loops in The Forgotten City to gain access to the dialogue that leads to his death.

After acquiring the bow, talk to Desius at the marketplace and accept his quest to swap it for the Golden Bow. Go to the temple beside Georgius’ shop and swap the bows. To get out, turn the hive above into gold. Players can now use the new bow to climb the vines they find in the upcoming gameplay section, and when they return to the ancient Roman hub in The Forgotten City.

Finding the Golden Bow adds to the time it takes to beat The Forgotten City, but it is needed to unlock three out of the four main endings.

The Forgotten City is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
