Where To Find The Katana In The Forest

The Entrance To Cave 1

The Katana can be found sticking out of the body of an unfortunate passenger inside Cave 1 (Dead Cave). To find the cave, look for the North Facing mountain. This mountain is the biggest thing on the island and can be spotted from almost everywhere. Once you have it in your sights, head toward it, go past the sinkhole, and head for the large lake that runs through the middle of the island. You don't need to cross the lake, instead, head east along the shoreline until you reach a handful of randomly dotted boulders in a clearing. Once you reach these boulders, head right onto the top of the hill, and you'll see a rope that you can climb down to enter the cave.

This isn't the only entrance to Cave 1, but it is by far the easiest way to get the Katana. The other way into the cave requires you to take on some challenging mutants.

Katana Location In Cave 1 (Dead Cave)

After you have climbed down the rope, follow the steps below to get to the Katana:

  • Once you are at the bottom, head straight.
  • You'll see a rope; climb up the rope.
  • At the top, you'll see the lower half of a body hanging from the ceiling.
  • Head left to avoid the mutants and go along the wood panels that line the floor.
  • Follow the path to the bottom of the cave.
  • At the bottom of the path is an opening. In the opening, you'll find some bodies. One has the Katana sticking out of it.
  • To leave the cave, just follow the steps in reverse order.

How To Use The Katana Effectively In The Forest

A Katana In The Backpack

The Katana is a very powerful weapon that has two attack modes; a standard attack and a power attack. The power attack, while it does cost more stamina, deals considerably more damage than the standard attack. However, due to the time it takes to swing the Katana, using the power attack leaves the player vulnerable to follow-up enemy attacks.

The power attack should only really be used when there are only one or two enemies. Any more than that, and it's easy for the player to get overwhelmed.

You can also block with the Katana, which can help to negate damage taken from enemies.
