Flying tiles have appeared in a handful of Legend of Zelda games, but in Echoes of Wisdom, you'll need one to complete the appropriately named "The Flying Tile" side quest. These "enemies" are exactly what they're stated to be: panels that lift off the floor and fly towards Zelda or Link. They don't normally deal much damage, but you'll want to block them before they can chip away at your character's health. There are two places that have flying tiles in Echoes of Wisdom, and they're all located in the Gerudo Desert.

Those darn tumbleweeds keep breaking apart when you get too close to them. How do you pick them up in Echoes of Wisdom?

The Flying Tile Walkthrough

Where to Find a Flying Tile

After completing Suthorn Ruins, you'll meet Impa's older brother, Lueberry. You'll learn there are two large rifts that have opened in Jabul Ruins and the Gerudo Desert. Head west from Lueberry's house and you'll eventually reach the desert area. When you've officially crossed into the Gerudo Desert, keep going west and you'll find the Oasis. Standing a few feet away from the Business Scrub is a Gerudo. Speak to her to get "The Flying Tile" quest.

If this is your first visit to the desert, then you'll eventually gain access to the Gerudo Sanctum if you follow the story quests. Here's how to find a flying tile:

  1. Complete the story quests, help Dhona, and you'll eventually gain access to the Gerudo Sanctum.
  2. Take the ladder down to a "2D" room with several wind cannons and rock walls to climb.
  3. After making it through the tunnels with the wind cannons, you'll climb a ladder and enter the Gerudo Sanctum. Open the map, and you'll notice that Zelda is on the 2nd floor.
  4. From here, go through the room on the left to find a room with 10 red/brown colored tiles and a treasure chest.

If you don't want to revisit the Sanctum, then there's a cave with several flying tiles located to the far northwest of the Oasis.

You won't be able to "defeat" the tiles before Learning the Echo. To register it, hurry over to the closest tile and tap the ZR-button before it rises from the floor. This will add the tile to your growing list of Echoes. When used, the tile will fly in the direction that Zelda is facing. It's useful if you need to quickly get from one point to another. If you weren't able to Learn the Echo because the flying tiles broke, leave the room then go back in to "refresh" them.

The Flying Tile Reward

Is It Worth It?

zelda echoes of wisdom flying tile reward

Turn in "The Flying Tile" to get your reward. You'll earn 50 Rupees for your hard work, which you can spend at general stores or pay to the nearby Business Scrub to make more smoothies. 50 Rupees isn't a bad deal - especially in a new playthrough - but "The Flying Tile" is definitely one side quest that benefits you in the earlier stages of Echoes of Wisdom than it does in the latter half.
