  • Players on these consoles will be able to carry over their account information to supported hardware.

The First Descendant devs have shared their plan to end support for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the online multiplayer game. Since coming out in July 2024, The First Descendant has catered to players across current-gen as well as previous-gen consoles, alongside PC.

Over the past several months, Nexon, the creator of The First Descendant, has gone through a roller coaster of a time. From the highs of the enormous launch of its looter shooter title to the lows of downsizing its US-based workforce, the South Korean developer has experienced quite a few contrasting moments in a very short span. Through all of it, the First Descendant devs have soldiered on with a steady cadence of post-launch updates for the live-service game. However, after seven eventful months of supporting the game, the team is now at a crossroads where it apparently feels necessary to leave behind The First Descendant's previous-gen ports in favor of focusing on newer platforms via Sam Woods from TheGamer.

In a livestream about the forthcoming Beyond the Void update, Nexon shared its decision to pull the plug on old-gen console versions of The First Descendant in the near future with the fanbase. The developers revealed that, after a more comprehensive announcement about this matter later on March 20, the support for the PS4 and Xbox ports will be scheduled to end with a planned update on June 19, 2025. Importantly, the players on these old consoles will be able to carry over their account information to any of the future-proof platforms, thanks to First Descendant's cross-save functionality.

When Will Support for The First Descendant on PS4 and Xbox One End?

  • June 19, 2025

Talking about the hard decision, The First Descendant Producer Beom-Jun Lee labeled it as something fans "might have expected" and apologized to those playing the game on these systems. He reasoned that the call was made with "much reluctance" and with the hopes of enabling the team to "step up its game again." Moreover, the Nexon head shared that the termination of the old-gen versions was also being done in order to elevate the "satisfaction" of the content coming in The First Descendant's next season, which has interestingly been described as a "mega season update."

From the looks of it, it seems clear that Nexon devs are finally ready to leave behind the aging hardware of the PS4 and Xbox One in exchange for focusing on delivering an optimal experience for those playing on the latest platforms. While the amount of player engagement The First Descendant achieved at the time of its launch may seem tough to match, it would appear that the team is certainly aiming towards such a goal.
