Compared to other Soulslike games, The First Berserker: Khazan is on the difficult end of the spectrum, especially during the first few boss fights that serve as hard skill and knowledge checks. For any daring players who can master the unique combat of The First Berserker: Khazan and defeat the final boss, there are still challenges that lie ahead in the game's two subsequent new game plus modes, NG+ and NG++, for players to consider facing.

Naturally, the two NG+ modes available in The First Berserker: Khazan will increase the game’s overall difficulty and reset players’ quest progress while letting them retain their gear and upgrades for a subsequent playthrough. In addition to these typical changes, there are also a few unique features that will only be available on NG+ and NG++. Considering that The First Berserker: Khazan is a difficult game by default, players may want to know what to expect from these subsequent playthroughs and whether it’s worth taking on the extra challenge.

The First Berserker: Khazan has a steep difficulty curve, though players can overcome this curve by relying on a few unwritten rules.

The First Berserker: Khazan: New Game Plus Explained

After defeating the final boss in The First Berserker: Khazan, players will have the choice to begin NG+ or to continue their existing playthrough with the option to enter NG+ at any time later via the Phantom Blade NPC in the Crevice. Since players can freely replay any main and optional mission, and fight any boss again, the premise of a NG+ mode in The First Berserker: Khazan might seem redundant, but there are a handful of exclusive features that will only become available after entering NG+.

While it’s not exclusive to NG+, one reason why players may want to enter NG+ or NG++ is to achieve one of the three different endings in The First Berserker: Khazan, which can alter the final boss fight.

What Carries Over Into NG+ In The First Berserker Khazan?

  • Collectibles
  • Armor and weapons
  • Lacrima
  • Gold
  • Stats, skill points, Vengeance Points, Phantom Abilites, and Spirit of Advocacy upgrades
  • Crevice NPC services (including all unlocked crafting sets)
  • Daphrona’s Codex entries and challenges

Some of the most notable things that won’t carry over into NG+ in The First Berserker: Khazan are the Blade Nexus checkpoints and players’ progress in the main and optional missions. However, certain progression systems and NPC services that players unlocked during their first playthrough will automatically be available at the beginning of a NG+ playthrough, without the need to redo the related side mission. This notably includes: attribute rolling and gear crafting in The First Berserker: Khazan.

The First Berserker: Khazan NG+ Changes

  • Difficulty increase
  • Increased Lacrima drop rates
  • Raised level cap
  • Epic and legendary tier armor and weapon crafting
  • Transmog for armor and weapons
  • New skill tree upgrades
  • Completed Lantern equipment that combines the effects of all Lanterns

NG+ will offer an increased challenge overall, though players will be able to overcome this difficulty curve in The First Berserker: Khazan with a variety of new and improved buildcrafting tools. For starters, the level cap will be raised, and legendary tier armor and weapons will become available. There will also be new skill tree upgrades for players to unlock, including both active and passive skills, some of which build upon Khazan’s Phantom Mode ability by giving players more ways to manage and spend their Phantom Mode Energy.

Transmog for armor and weapons is currently only available in NG+. However, this feature will soon be available for players on their first playthrough in a future update for The First Berserker: Khazan, along with other changes and new QoL features.

The First Berserker: Khazan NG++ Changes

  • Difficulty increase
  • Increased Lacrima drop rates
  • Raised level cap

For players who want the turn The First Berserker: Khazan’s difficulty up to the max, completing NG+ will unlock NG++. This mode may not introduce any new exclusive features beyond what is already available in NG+, though it will generally increase the difficulty even further, while also raising the max level and Lacrima drop rates accordingly.
