Summary

  • The Elder Scrolls 6, highly anticipated by fans after its teaser trailer in 2018, has entered early development after Starfield's release, but a release window is still uncertain.
  • The game is set in Hammerfell and High Rock, as hinted by the original teaser, and is expected to be another record-breaker following the success of Skyrim.
  • Considering past release patterns from Bethesda, The Elder Scrolls 6 may not receive another trailer for several more years, possibly not until 2025 or 2026 at best, making it a long wait for fans.

With 2023 being one of the best years for gaming in a long time, at least in terms of new releases and their quality, there are many high bars to clear for big titles yet to come. While GTA 6 recently broke a massive record on social media thanks to the hype it generated over time, The Elder Scrolls 6 is likely to follow suit when its time comes. However, Bethesda's highly-anticipated RPG came and went without much news after its first and only teaser trailer, which dates back all the way to June 2018 at E3. Since Starfield was finally released earlier this year, it only makes sense that another trailer for TES 6 will take years to come, and actually be released when the game is closer to launch.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is supposedly set in Hammerfell and High Rock, which is a clue that many fans got through the original teaser in 2018. This was a brief video, and it only showed a mountain range, a settlement castled up in the middle of it, and the sea on the right side. This teaser generated immense hype among Bethesda fans, especially seeing how popular Skyrim turned out to be even after 12 years, and the next chapter in the saga looks like it'll be another record-breaker - but not necessarily of positive records only.

Todd Howard Reveals Ambitious Goal for The Elder Scrolls 6

Bethesda's Todd Howard, game director for The Elder Scrolls 6, reveals an ambitious goal the team has with the game.

Predicting When The Elder Scrolls 6's Next Trailer Will Be Released

The fact that Starfield was released this September is big news for fans of The Elder Scrolls games, as soon after came confirmation from Bethesda itself that TES 6 has now entered early development, leaving its pre-production phase that supposedly lasted for a long time. This doesn't necessarily pinpoint a release window since different games require different challenges, but it is valuable information nonetheless.

For example, Starfield was announced during the same showcase as The Elder Scrolls 6, but it had already been in pre-production for a while and was considered "playable" at the time by Todd Howard himself. TES 6 entering full production now means it is probably going to be in that same playable state soon, but still far away from full release. Starfield was originally planned around 25 years ago, as Todd Howard stated in interviews, but the actual full production of the game was likely started either after Fallout 4 or Fallout 76, or somewhere in between. The space sim's Shattered Space expansion is also coming, though, and Todd Howard discussed how many developers are still on Starfield - a number that roughly corresponds to over 50% of Bethesda's workforce.

There is also something else to consider when it comes to when The Elder Scrolls 6 will get another trailer, and that's the pattern of past releases from Bethesda. The following games were first announced and then got a teaser later:

  • Skyrim was announced on December 13, 2010, and then got a follow-up trailer on February 23, 2011
  • Fallout 4 was announced on November 5, 2015, and then was released on November 10 of the same year
  • Fallout 76 was announced on May 30, 2018, and then got a follow-up trailer on June 18 of the same year
  • Starfield was announced on June 11, 2018, and then got a follow-up trailer on June 14, 2021, with further trailers in 2023

What follows is that The Elder Scrolls 6's launch window may be very far out in the future considering that it only got a teaser over 5 years ago and then never a follow-up. There was news stating that TES 6 would come after Fable, and then Pete Hines stated it would be years still before fans hear anything else about it. As such, The Elder Scrolls 6 may pass the 3000-day mark without another teaser, as it will be around 2,900 days in June of 2026 since the first teaser in 2018. Even at best, based on current information, TES 6 could get another trailer in 2025 - and that'll still be 7 years after the first.
