Other disappointments include extremely limited online servers for multiplayer, frequent crashes and bugs, and laggy combat and movement mechanics. Many fans had been hoping that The Day Before would be a solid zombie shooter like DayZ, but it seems that may not be the case.

Prior to The Day Before's early access launch, the studio faced a number of legal hurdles. The developer had to settle disputes relating to copyright infringement, alleged use of other studios' assets, and queries regarding similarities between The Day Before and The Division. In spite of these controversies, or perhaps thanks in part to the attention they brought, The Day Before was at the top of Steam's most wishlisted titles.
