Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans are more than a little impatient to hear news about the upcoming reboot. Although there is still a long way to go, Sarah Michelle Gellar is sharing regular updates, and there is a real sense of excitement in the air. The story of high school slayer Buffy Summers (Gellar) fighting to save Sunnydale and the people she cares about is as relevant today as ever, and it's fun to imagine what an older Buffy's life is like now. The original series ran on The WB/UPN for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003 and is still a fun, wild ride about demons, monsters, friendship, family, and growing up.
While several new characters are being cast in the Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot, it would be a shame not to see at least a few familiar actors. Although fans would be happy to see Faith Lehane (Eliza Dushku) and Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan) again, there is one character whose appearance would make the Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot particularly great.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 1 Ending, Explained
At the end of season 1 of the popular TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Buffy Summers fights an important battle.
Anthony Head's Buffy The Vampire Slayer Character Rupert Giles Should Appear In The Reboot
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot needs emotional episodes like season 5's "The Body" when Buffy Summers loses her mom Joyce (Kristine Sutherland). Rupert Giles (Anthony Head) should also make at least a cameo appearance or become a minor player on the series.
Giles is the Sunnydale High librarian who plays an important role as Buffy's Watcher and mentor and makes sure she stays out of harm's way. Giles and Buffy have a hilarious and memorable dynamic. Since she's strong-willed and rebellious, she doesn't always listen to him, which creates some entertaining conflict. Although it sounds like Buffy will be the mentor in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, it would make sense if she stayed in touch with Giles and he was still there to offer wisdom and advice.
Giles understands the history of Sunnydale and the Hellmouth and he describes Buffy in one famous scene:
"In every generation there is a Chosen One. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons and the forces of darkness. She is the Slayer."
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer wouldn't feel the same without Giles. Maybe he is living in England again and video chats with Buffy to help her with a new vampire problem, or he comes to visit in one episode. The best episodes of Buffy feature genuine moments between the main characters along with action-packed scenes about terrifying creatures. Hopefully, the reboot will also strike a good balance between allowing the characters to change and grow while telling some fast-paced stories about the vampires who populate the Hellmouth. No matter how knowledgable Buffy is and how much experience she has fighting vampires, it would be nice to see that she still trusts Giles.
There is another reason why Giles should come back: the nostalgia factor. Reboots such as Resident Evil rely on the sentimental feelings that fans have toward the original movie, franchise, or series, and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is no different. Reboots, revivals, and sequels often feature original characters in mentor roles so they can help the new generation along, and that should happen here, too. If Buffy simply mentions Giles in one brief scene, that would be disappointing, so hopefully he shows up and fans learn about what's going on in his life currently.
What Happened To Rupert Giles In Buffy The Vampire Slayer?
Rupert Giles has a fascinating character arc throughout seasons 1 through 7 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In season 1, he helps Buffy Summers adjust to her new life, and in season 3, he looks for her when she runs away. The surprising Buffy season 3 ending changes everyone's lives, and Giles gets fired in season 4, which makes him wonder what is next. He spends the next little while wondering if he should move back home to England or stay in Sunnydale.
The Buffy The Vampire Slayer season 7 ending features the shocking battle to save Sunnydale from the Hellmouth and Giles lives along with the other main characters. The ending is fairly vague as it's unclear what will happen to Giles, Buffy, and their friends. Fans would be happy to see Giles again and learn what has happened to him since the memorable series finale.
