Summary
- The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game will stop receiving major updates after May 2025.
- This means no new content, balance updates, or bug fixes.
- There will be future patches to transition the title to peer-to-peer matchmaking, however.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game that first launched in 2023, is done releasing major updates after the May 2025 update drops. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre gives players the chance to play as Leatherface and his twisted family as well as the survivors that are attempting to escape their clutches.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre reviews were mostly positive, and the game had a decent playerbase at first. But in an age where multiplayer games have to compete with never-ending live-service titles, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre player count dwindled. At the time of this writing, there are about 660 players on the Steam version of the game, so while it still has some fans that continue playing to this day, it's safe to say that the vast majority of the audience has moved on to other games.
Unfortunately for those that continue to enjoy The Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game, it's been announced by Gun Interactive that the title will no longer receive any major updates after the May 2025 one. Gun Interactive believes that the previous Texas Chain Saw Massacre content updates have helped the game reach "its full potential." This means that there will be no more DLC, balance updates, or bug fixes after the May 2025 patch. There will be future patches to transition The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to peer-to-peer matchmaking, however. This is certainly bad news for fans of the game, but there is a silver lining.
Texas Chain Saw Massacre Support is Ending
Unlike other asymmetrical multiplayer horror games that have had their support ended, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre's servers will remain online, and the game is not being removed from digital storefronts. It's great that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will remain readily available, especially since similar games like Friday the 13th: The Game have been delisted and shut down.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was recently featured as a free PS Plus game, available as part of the service's April 2025 lineup. It's possible that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre being free on PS Plus introduced a new set of gamers to the game, and they may be disappointed by this development, but we also don't know exactly how many people decided to check it out through their subscription.
