Once players start their game, they will need to complete some placement races with Lamborghini Huracán Performante before they are invited to the Solar Hotel. Here they will be given their room and choose their actual starting car. Once players regain control of their starting character, they will be able to start adding friends to their friends list — and inviting them into their game from it.

To find this list, players will first pause their game and move to the far right, where they will see Groups And Players button above Options. Players will see their platform’s friends listed here, but this will also be where they will find the other races they send friend requests to in the game.

For those wondering why they cannot change or customize their vehicles, this will be a feature done at the workshop back at the Solar Hotel.

Once you and your friends are in the same group, you will be able to take part in some, but not all of, the game’s numerous races. When you attempt to start a race that the entire group can race in, they will be prompted to confirm your choice. If you try to do a race that your friends cannot join in, the game will give you a prompt letting you know you will be temporarily unavailable for group activities, and ask if you would like to continue.

There are many editions of Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, but sadly, none of them will feature cross-play functionality. The player will only see players who are playing on the same device as they are. This means if one player is playing on PS5 and another is playing on an Xbox, those two will not be in the same race.

If you have the game on both of these platforms, you will have to make separate save files for each. While there is no officially announced reason for this, there are speculations that it might be to ensure players are always on equal footing in the event one platform is able to have an advantage over others — such as PS5 players racing against those with low-end PCs.
