Bandai Namco confirms that Tekken 8 has sold 3 million copies in just over a year and teases bigger plans still yet to come. It was a big year for Tekken 8 as the fighter managed to achieve new highs for the franchise both in terms of critical acclaim as well as reaching a broader audience.
Following the addition of Final Fantasy XVI's Clive to the Tekken 8 roster as the final Season 1 character, many fans were wondering what's next for the popular fighting game. Rumors continued to swirl over what a potential season 2 could look like, especially following series producer Katsuhiro Harada's tease of new content during the Grand Finals of the 2024 Tekken 8 World Tour. Months later, Tekken 8 finally pulls the curtain back on its plans and confirms an important milestone for the game.
Tekken 8 Should 'Steal' One Recent MK1 Addition
Something unexpected recently appeared in Mortal Kombat 1, and Tekken 8 would work great with one of the unlockables that came with it.
Bandai Namco held a special livestream to reveal the upcoming second season of Tekken 8. Before jumping into the new content, the livestream confirmed that Tekken 8 has sold 3 million copies on its first anniversary. The sales milestone has even come at a faster pace than Tekken 7, which ultimately managed to sell 12 million copies over 10 years. The news reinforces Tekken 8 as being a top seller in the US for 2024, and the studio aims to keep that momentum going into 2025.
Tekken 8 Teases Even More Content to Come
The sales announcement was followed up by the promise that Bandai Namco has "a lot of cool stuff planned" and that it hopes players will stick with them. Part of those plans were also revealed with a big Season 2 update that's free for all players, following on the heels of the Tekken 8 winter update announcement. The update appears to be a big one as the team revealed a new Ghost vs Ghost feature, as well as "large-scale" battle balance adjustments and ranked match specification changes.
For most fans though, Tekken 8 Season 2 adds Anna Williams to the roster as part of a new Character Pass. The legacy character launches on April 3, or March 31 for those with Early Access. Overall, Season 2 is set to feature 6 DLCs, 2 stages and 4 characters in total. As expected, there will be a release every few months, with a Stage and Character set for Summer, another fighter in Autumn, and then the final stage and character launching sometime in Winter.
