The Best War Games can share an exclusive new clip from Taskmaster Season 19, which previews a quirky meta task from its forthcoming ninth episode. The episode itself is scheduled to premiere later this week.

Created by comedian Alex Horne, the immensely popular comedy panel show is currently nearing the end of its 19th season—or series, in keeping with British television terms. S19 consists of ten episodes, eight of which have already aired. Episode 9, titled Getaway Sticks, is scheduled to air on Channel 4 this Thursday, June 26.

The British network has once again shared a preview of its next Taskmaster episode that The Best War Games can exclusively reveal. This time around, the episode preview doesn't reveal much, as all five contestants immediately get stuck at the very first step of the depicted task: finding it—or more specifically, locating the usual envelope containing the task instructions. To guide them, the search is framed as a traditional game of Hot/Warm or Cold, with a twist: the envelope is actually stuck to each contestant’s back.

Taskmaster Season 19, Episode 9 Preview

With the (meta) task envelope being unusually positioned to move around, the setup allows for several lively rounds of the hide-and-seek variation game. While it's a bit too early to draw concrete conclusions, the way this preview is edited kind of makes it seem like Brooklyn 99 and Invincible star Jason Mantzoukas took the longest to figure out what's happening, exhausting a substantial number of possibilities before thinking of patting himself on the back. Podcaster Rosie Ramsey receives the second-most screen time and appears to grasp the gimmick of the search relatively quickly.

Comedians Fatiha El-Ghorri and Stevie Martin make brief appearances in the preview, which shows them overcoming the initial challenge after an unspecified amount of time. Meanwhile, actor Mathew Baynton is shown struggling to locate the task envelope. The contents of the cheekily hidden instructions remain unclear, but given the show's typical format, it’s likely that the act of finding the envelope was a key component of the overall task.

Patatas the cat, a fuzzy prop that first appeared in Taskmaster Season 2, is set to return in Getaway Sticks, according to the official synopsis of Episode 9. The same source also teases that Fatiha El-Ghorri will knock down an "egg-shaped Alex Horne" over the course of the upcoming episode. While the jury is still out on how S19 compares to the best Taskmaster seasons to date, the ongoing series has already received widespread fan praise for its spirited cast and high-effort editing, among other qualities.
