Ahead of its February 2023 release date, Tales of Symphonia Remastered shared a new story trailer to explain the plot of the game and the main characters involved in this adventure. Tales of Symphonia Remastered will keep the same story as the original 2003 JRPG, bringing the journey of Lloyd Irving and his friends to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The original Tales of Symphonia was released in Japan in 2003, exclusively on the Nintendo GameCube. The JRPG came to the West one year later and met commercial success, bringing new popularity to the Tales of series outside of Japan. Ten years later, Tales of Symphonia and its sequel Dawn of the New World were ported to PlayStation 3. In September 2022, Nintendo revealed Tales of Symphonia Remastered, an improved version of the original JRPG set to release on February 17, 2023.

The latest trailer released for Tales of Symphonia Remastered sheds more light on the story of this JRPG. The game follows the adventures of Colette Brunel, a young girl known as the Chosen One whose mission is to save the decaying world of Sylvarant. She embarks on a journey with her childhood friends Lloyd Irving and Genis Sage to regenerate the world and defeat the Desians, a military group causing terror across this land and enslaving its inhabitants.

The story trailer shows glimpses of gameplay, with action-packed battles where the heroes face various foes, from Desians troops to giant monsters. Between two fights, Colette and her friends share their feelings through skits and cutscenes, just like in other entries from the Tales of series. On their journey to save the world, the group will cross various landscapes, from rural towns to deserts, coastal industrial cities to old temples.

Tales of Symphonia Remastered is the latest game from the Tales of series to receive an updated version. In 2019, Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition revamped the original 2008 JRPG with upscaled graphics and new voice tracks. In a survey conducted in 2021, Bandai Namco asked players if they would like to play other remastered versions of older Tales of games. Several titles in the franchise were eligible for these remasters, such as Tales of Xillia, Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Phantasia, and even the PSP-exclusive crossover Tales of the world-Radiant Mythology-. While Bandai Namco hasn’t yet announced any other plan for remastered Tales of games, the sales of Tales of Symphonia Remastered could pave the way for new remakes in the series.

Tales of Symphonia Remastered launches on February 17 for PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
