Once Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door players make decent progress through the tournament arc at the Glitz Pit, they'll eventually have to go to the storage room. Mario receives a mysterious message from someone calling themselves 'X,' telling him to find the switch to reach the attic. The only thing you'll see in the storage room are a couple of boxes with stars on them, and it's kind of hard to figure out exactly what you need to do here to proceed.

Paper Mario TTYD: How to Find the Switch in the Storage Room
The first thing you should do when you end up in the storage room is perform a Spin Jump (aka the Ground Pound) near the middle of the room to find a hidden Star Piece. You can do this by jumping and then pressing the button a second time. Just be sure to do it next to the shaky tile and not right on top. Otherwise, the Star Piece won't pop out.
Mario can use the collected Star Pieces to unlock new badges by speaking to Dazzle in the Rogueport sewers. There are a whopping 100 pieces to find throughout the world.
Now, to actually find the hidden switch in the room, you need to switch to your Madame Flurrie partner and use her power on the set of blocks on the left side of the room. Doing this will remove the blue-colored wraps off the blocks, and now, Mario can use his trusty hammer attack to destroy them.
Keep breaking the blocks until you find a blue switch in the top-left corner of the room. Go ahead and hop on top of it to reveal a hidden staircase that will take you to the attic. However, before going up, break the blocks on the right side of the room to find the Charge-P badge.
The Charge-P badge increases the damage your partner will cause on their next attack during battle.
Go upstairs, hit the Shine Sprite box, and then use Yoshi's jumping power to make it over to the left side of the room. Use Mario's charged hammer attack to break the big yellow block. Before dropping into the hole, make sure to grab the HP Plus P badge on the nearby crate.
In the next area, head to the right side to find a tiny hole with a light coming out of it. Interact with the hole to listen to a conversation downstairs.
Once the scene ends, slip into the nearby grate to return to the main room.
