Rumors surrounding Rocksteady Studios' follow-up title to the now concluded Batman Arkham series continue to propagate. Mirroring a similar wave of Rocksteady rumors in 2017, another wave has cropped up with The Game Awards 2018 just weeks away.

So far two rumors have surfaced and neither can be considered particularly reliable. First, a mysterious new listing for Superman: World's Finest appeared on a relatively unheard of game-listings website named GameSystemRequirements. It's unclear if the site scrapes data from storefronts like Steam but it doesn't appear that listings can be created by users. Either way, the title mirrors rumors from E3 2017 featuring supposed leaked marketing material. A poster showing Superman's back and the title Superman: World's Finest was shown then. That announcement, of course, was never made. This listing is an even less reliable "leak" -- a title on an otherwise blank page.

The second rumor, believe it or not, is even less reliable and stems from the 4chan message board. This rumor does have a twist, however. The rumor claims Rocksteady's next game is named DC World's Finest, that it features both Superman and Batman as protagonists, and that it takes place in Metropolis. The catch is that the URL for dcworldsfinest.com redirects to an official Warner Bros. Landing page. To be fair, it's a landing page for both Warner Bros. Interactive and the movie production side of the company, which could mean the title is for something entirely different if not just a way to protect a comic-related brand.

Unfortunately, neither rumor is any more substantial than any of the previous disingenuous rumors.

The crux of the issue is that Rocksteady Studios has released a major game every 3-4 years since Batman: Arkham Asylum launched in 2011. With Arkham Knight out in 2015, a 2019 release for a new game would fit right into the studio's development cycle. It's safe to say that an announcement is coming, but there's no certainty as to when it will take place. The Game Awards 2018 could potentially be where that announcement is made, but it's no more certain than The Game Awards 2017 or E3 2018 were.

There's also an issue with the World's Finest subtitle, which has roots in DC comics stemming long before rumors about Rocksteady's next game began. World's Finest Comics was a comic that ran from 1941 through 1986 and starred both Batman and Superman. It'd be a great name for a game, but it's also the perfect fake title to capitalize on the crazy amount of rumors surrounding Rocksteady's next game.

And then there's the response that Kotaku editor Jason Schreier made when asked if GameSystemRequirements was a reliable source:

"Look, I really don't want to spoil an announcement just for the sake of spoiling an announcement, with no newsworthy reason to do so (especially since I'm sure we'll see Rocksteady's game soon), but from what I've heard, this ain't it."

Superman: World's Finest or DC World's Finest being the title of Rocksteady Studio's next game remains extremely unreliable, if not debunked. The "leaks" so far are not confirmed to be genuine and could easily be attributable to an overly excited fan. Officially, any Rocksteady announcements have previously been confirmed to be "a while off." The Game Awards 2018 could be where that announcement is made, but that's purely speculation.
