In a trailer spanning just under 3 minutes, Superman wows with visuals, chemistry, and powers, but there are quite a few things that fans might have missed upon their first watch of the trailer, and perhaps even their tenth time, so look below for a few discoveries that might provide easter eggs and plot cues.

6 The Consequences of Superman’s Actions

The Hammer of Boravia Seeks Revenge

The main focus of the Superman trailer seems to showcase Superman’s conflict involving the aftermath of his actions. Superman interfered with a war between two countries, an affair that hasn’t been taken lightly by the U.S. Government, nor the good journalists of America, as seen by Lois Lane’s tough questions directed towards Superman in an interview. Lois asks the hard questions, and Superman realizes that doing the right thing just because he can doesn’t mean there won’t be consequences.

It seems that Superman is set to learn the hard way, not just through Lois asking difficult questions, but through the unnamed helmet-wearing villain who attacks Superman in Metropolis. Based on a newspaper held by Clark in the trailer, this villain seems to be named the Hammer of Boravia, who has perhaps been supplied technology from Lex Luthor to get revenge on Superman for interfering with his nation’s affairs.

5 LordTech’s Importance

LordTech is Everywhere, from Property to Technology, and Even Superheroes

LordTech is set to become a prominent source in the DCU. A company founded by Maxwell Lord, it seems that this benefactor’s reach is everywhere. The Superman trailer is spliced with products from LordTech, like an audio recorder, and a few buildings, like the stadium where Superman fights the Engineer. Yet, that’s not everything funded by Maxwell Lord’s LordTech, as it seems the superheroes are in his pocket, too.

The trailer showcases more of the abilities and heroics of the LordTech team, consisting of Mr. Terrific, Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl. While this trio of heroes has been seen in previous marketing, it leaves fans wondering about their importance and the meaning of the LordTech branding. Is Superman a break in the status quo for established, corporate heroes?

4 Rick Flag’s Control of A.R.G.U.S.

Rick Flag is the Head of ARGUS Instead of Amanda Waller

Superman’s actions in warring nations have caught the eye of the U.S. Government, and their leading agency, A.R.G.U.S. The Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans has had quite the controversy ever since Amanda Waller was forced to step down as the face of the U.S. Agency, leaving Rick Flag in a position of power. While Rick Flag isn’t set to take revenge on Peacemaker for the murder of his son yet, it seems he has time to meddle in Kryptonian affairs.

Rick Flag is looking into Superman and his involvement with the international crisis, and the trailer showcases him working alongside a masked villain with a ‘U’ on his chest and the Engineer, which implies that Lex Luthor has his hands in the large A.R.G.U.S. Pie if he’s lending his super soldiers to Rick Flag’s personal. This wouldn’t be the first time Flag was manipulated, as the same thing happened in Creature Commandos involving Princess Ilana Rostovic in Pokolistan.

3 Metamorpho Produces Kryptonite

A Meta-Human Who Can Create Any Element From His Body

Metamorpho seems to have an important role that may have finally been revealed in the Superman trailer, showcasing his ability as a meta-human to change his body into any element. It seems that Metamorpho can construct elements not of this world, for he can be seen in the same cell as Superman with his hand formed entirely of kryptonite to keep Superman subdued and unable to escape.

Metamorpho’s subservient behavior that makes him willing to create kryptonite could come from a place of torture, where Lex Luthor has forced Metamorpho into this role. Luthor has already showcased his bitter hatred for Superman by calling him an “it”, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Metamorpho is his kryptonite-producing meta-human slave.

2 Lex Luthor’s Pocket Universe

Luthor’s Prison for Experiments, Meta-Humans, and Exes?

James Gunn previously teased that pocket universes should be expected in Superman, and the trailer seems to confirm what he meant. Superman and Metamorpho, sharing the same cell, could potentially be within this pocket universe, a place for Lex Luthor to store all of his discarded trash and dark secrets. Lex is, after all, a villain, so why wouldn’t he have a genius self-crafted pocket universe where he can house his own prisoners and meta-humans away from the U.S. Government?

The trailer features Lois and Mr. Terrific entering through a portal that seems to be in the same location as Lex’s pocket universe, and the background showcases hundreds of cells stacked on top of each other, including one with a girl in a dress who doesn’t appear to be any known meta-human. Perhaps the reason this place is so vast is simply because it exists out of space and time.

1 Luthor’s Siege on the Fortress of Solitude

The Engineer Destroys Superman’s Robots

Lex Luthor’s hatred for Superman reaches a new low when he manages to breach Superman’s impenetrable Fortress of Solitude. The previous teaser showcases Lex in the Fortress of Solitude with the Engineer and the unnamed masked villain with the ‘U’ on his chest, but this trailer shows a more direct and brutal approach as the Engineer fights her way through Superman’s robots and even tussles with Krypto the Super Dog.

DC: 7 Reasons Why the DCU and The Batman Shouldn't Merge

Fans are often debating why The Batman universe should merge with the DCU, but here are a few reasons why that shouldn't happen.

The trailer showcases the unnamed villain and the Engineer fighting Superman’s robots and brutally killing them, but two questions can be asked: What does Lex want with the Fortress of Solitude, and how did he get in? Luthor says in the trailer that he will not accept that Superman is the focal point of the entire world’s conversation, so could Lex be trying to find dirt on Superman in the Fortress of Solitude that will turn humanity against him?
