Major spoilers ahead for Superman (2025)!
Superman has finally arrived, and it's time for audiences worldwide to look up from July 11 to see Superman back on the big screen for a bold and new vision for the start of the DCU. As the first live-action entry into the DCU, it's only right for James Gunn's Superman (2025) to have quite a few easter eggs for comic fans to enjoy.

From references to other characters, strange fan wars, and exceptional cameos, there's a lot to love on a watch of Superman, but even more to watch when one studies the easter eggs that are provided throughout the two-hour runtime.

8 The Social Media Monkeys
The Pocket Dimension Holds Many Hateful Commenters
This is a meta joke that might go over the heads of many more casual fans who aren’t active in the social media wars between the old DC guard and the new. While exploring Lex’s pocket dimension, there’s a room filled with monkeys that post on social media apps about how much of a loser Superman is, and often use heinous hashtags like calling Superman "SuperSh##". While it’s a funny scene, there’s more meaning behind it, since there has been a rather rabid and aggressive fanbase from the DCEU who seem to detest anything to do with Superman, so this easter egg is just a cute way for James Gunn to make jokes about toxic subcommunities on social media.
7 A Super Cast of Kryptonians
Kal-El's Family Holds a Few Celebrities
David Corenswet might have a huge responsibility as he ushers in the new age of DC as his roles as Clark Kent and Superman, but that doesn’t mean he has to do it alone. Some familiar talent joins the cast of Kryptonians and their technology, including Bradley Cooper as Superman's father, Jor-El, Angela Sarafyan as Superman's mother, Lara, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl, Superman's cousin. The Els seem to be going strong with incredible casting, but even the Superman Robots have some great names attached, like Alan Tudyk, Pom Klementieff, and, of course, Michael Rooker.

6 Peacemaker
John Cena's Foul-Mouthed Peace-Loving Hero Returns
One of the most surprising cameos and easter eggs in Superman was that of John Cena’s Peacemaker. Christopher Smith features in his iconic chrome dome helmet, along with his red t-shirt, showcasing his bulging biceps. While Peacemaker doesn’t get in on the action, he does feature (for some reason) on a talk show, where if audiences listen closely, they can hear him talk about how big his biceps are and how he does believe that Superman is evil like the constantly misinformed and gullible “hero” that he is.
5 Maxwell Lord
The Man Behind the Justice Gang
It’s one of the few cameos in Superman, but one of the most important for the future of the DCU. Maxwell Lord, played by Sean Gunn, features very briefly in a passing interview about Lex Luthor. What Maxwell Lord says isn’t particularly important, but his face will be. Audiences will get to see Maxwell Lord more prominently as the sole benefactor and funder of the Justice Gang and the Hall of Justice, and if the DCU takes fans on as many twists as the DC Comics with Maxwell Lord, then they’re in for a treat.
4 Belle Reve
The Super Prison Built to Hold Villains and Task Force X Recruits
If there’s any place to be imprisoned that’s worth than Arkham Asylum, it’s Belle Reve. Those who are transferred to Belle Reve might as well be given a death sentence, as this super prison is supposed to hold the most dangerous criminals around, who are given the chance to work for A.R.G.U.S. As part of Task Force X to reduce some of the years off of their sentence, even if the missions themselves are often seen as suicide missions. Dubbed the Suicide Squad, it’s nice to get a mention of this Belle Reve prison once more.
3 The Justice Society of America
The Classic Heroes of the Golden Years
The Hall of Justice is the iconic home base for the superheroes of the DC Universe, and that seems to be the case for the DCU. The Hall of Justice is still under construction by the time audiences see it within Superman, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a fair share of references to other iconic heroes who have featured in the past of the DCU, which isn’t surprising when it’s established that metahumans have been around for 300 years. If fans look at the mural during Lois’ conversation with the Justice Gang, they might just spot legendary icons like Dr. Fate, Wildcat, and Jay Garrick’s Flash.

While Superman doesn't have the greatest track record with video games, there are gems, such as Justice League Heroes and the Injustice series.
2 A Dimensional Imp
Mr. Mxyzptlk Isn't Far From Arrival
After discovering the “truth” regarding his Kryptonian heritage, Superman retreats to his apartment where he ponders from within his chair, ignoring the trouble outside his window to let the Justice Gang handle it. While the character in general isn’t anything recognizable, Superman’s choice of words to say they’re fighting a “dimensional imp” could be a reference to Mr. Mxyzptlk, an imp from the Fifth Dimension that likes to torment Superman now and then. James Gunn is never shy about his love of Bat-Mite, so if Mr. Mxyzptlk is already dipping a toe into the DCU, then everyone’s having a great time.
1 Gotham City
Home to Batman and Clown-Themed Villains
During the evacuation of Metropolis, fans might be able to quickly spot a road sign that leads people to Gotham City. It’s very blink and you’ll miss it, but it’s a treat to those who are paying close attention to the background. The proof that Gotham City exists further shows the interconnected detail of the DCU, but the fact that there’s a road sign just outside of Metropolis perhaps indicates that these are neighboring cities that are just waiting to be further explored when the World’s Finest finally collide.
