Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans have been looking forward to the game's next DLC character, Dragon Quest's Hero, since he was confirmed at E3 2019. We know that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be adding Hero some time this summer, and while an official announcement has yet to be made, a 7/11 pop-up display in Japan may narrow down the possibilities quite a bit.
Twitter user PushDustIn posted an image of a 7/11 pop-up display in Japan that advertises both Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Hero DLC character. It doesn't provide an exact release date for Hero, sticking to the "summer" release window, but the pop-up itself is set to be taken down on August 4. This seems to suggest that Hero will be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate by August 4, and if so, it seems likely that the character will come to the game during EVO 2019.
EVO 2019 is set to take place from August 2 to August 4, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is expected to have a major presence at the event. In fact, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is being featured as the closing game at EVO 2019, with Street Fighter being swapped out in its favor. It would make sense for Nintendo to commemorate such an occasion with the announcement of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Hero DLC release date.
Considering this, it seems likely that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will get Hero either during EVO or sometime before then. Previously, there was evidence that the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Hero DLC would come by the end of July, but with EVO so close, it may make more sense for Nintendo to hold off until then.
Of course, it's entirely possible that Hero won't make it to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate by August 4 as this 7/11 pop-up display seems to suggest. Summer 2019 technically lasts through most of September, and it's quite possible that Hero will slip to then. It seems unlikely, but there are all sorts of development hiccups that could happen to prevent Hero's timely release.
With EVO 2019 right around the corner and July coming to a close, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans won't have to wait much longer to find out for sure when Dragon Quest's Hero is coming to the game.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
