Platforming fighting games have grown in the last couple of years, with many developers and franchises trying to break into the same mold that Super Smash Bros. Has codified. While not every Super Smash Bros.-inspired game has seen the same success as Nintendo's efforts, the LEGO franchise is making its own attempts with LEGO Brawls. This LEGO fighting game has been available on iOS devices via the Apple Arcade service for the last few years, but now the game is making its way over to other consoles and PC later this year.
LEGO Brawls has a similar style of gameplay to Super Smash Bros., where it is played on a 2D plane with various platforms and obstacles that players have to navigate around. Unlike Smash, however, the goal of each game is different, being a King of the Hill style of gameplay with players facing each other in 4v4 team battles. Not only that, LEGO Brawls offers a robust character creation system, giving fans the chance to express their creativity. The most recent trailer revealed exactly when fans can start playing on their platform of choice.
This trailer was posted to both LEGO Brawls and Bandai Namco's Twitter account, with a CGI animated trailer showing off what players can expect in the game. This includes a variety of settings and characters that players can choose from, such as a Wild West desert stage to a pirate ship with gold and treasure. A ninja-themed stage also can be seen before showing the shadow of a dinosaur that is also a playable character in the game. The trailer ends with a shot announcing the release date for September 2.
Fans can currently pre-order LEGO Brawls on console or PC, with a demo even available on Steam if a fan is looking to try. For gamers who were looking to play with their friends across different platforms, the Twitter account notes that LEGO Brawls does support crossplay. The account also states there will be a standard edition for launch, with even more content being provided in seasonal batches.
LEGO fans are being treated well this year, with the release of not only this game but LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga too. That game was released earlier this year to critical and commercial acclaim, covering all three film trilogies of the Star Wars franchise. LEGO Brawls will likely please the fanbase as well when it releases this September.
LEGO Brawls is available now on Apple Arcade. It will come to PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on September 2, 2022.
