Nintendo's joyous jumping plumber has always been a jack of all trades, and he'll soon be able to stretch his party planning muscles once again in Super Mario Party Jamboree. It seems nearly everyone in the Mushroom Kingdom from Mario to Monty Mole is invited this time around, and Nintendo appears set on making this one of the most memorable Mario Party experiences in a long time. Super Mario Party Jamboree looks to set a new standard for what the series is capable of.

How Super Mario Party Jamboree Keeps The Good Times Rolling
7 Boards, 22 Playable Characters, and Minigames Galore
The most essential part of any Mario Party game is the quality and quantity of its playable boards. While most will have something for everyone to enjoy, previous Mario Party titles have been criticized for having a minimal selection of boards to explore. Super Mario Party Jamboree assuages any possible anxieties from the outset, featuring a total of seven playable boards, two of which are returning boards from Mario Party and Mario Party 2.
Super Mario Party Jamboree's playable boards at launch include:
- Goomba Lagoon: A scenic island where the shifting tide can make some paths inaccessible
- King Bowser's Keep: The secret base of Impostor Bowser, where players can be subject to attacks from the tyrant
- Mario's Rainbow Castle: A returning board from the first Mario Party where players climb a rainbow trail of clouds to reach Toad at the castle's peak
- Mega Wiggler's Tree Party: A wooded setting with a giant sleeping Wiggler nestled in the middle of the map. The Wiggler will change their position if woken up, taking any players on their back with them.
- Rainbow Galleria: A colorful three-level shopping mall with various shops offering items and other boosts. Catch a flash sale to grab items at a discount
- Roll 'em Raceway: Players jump into high-octane race cars to tear up the track on this board reminiscent of Mario Kart.
- Western Land: This remastered board from Mario Party 2 sees players travel through an Old West town complete with rickety train tracks, a dusty main street, and crimson buttes.
With so many boards to enjoy, Nintendo would have to send out a lot of party invitations, and it did not disappoint with Super Mario Party Jamboree. 22 characters in total will be playable, making for the largest Mario Party roster to date. From the usual suspects like Luigi and Daisy to first-time partiers like Pauline and Ninji, there's no shortage of names to collect stars with.
Super Mario Party Jamboree's full roster includes:
- Birdo
- Boo
- Bowser
- Bowser Jr.
- Daisy
- Donkey Kong
- Goomba
- Koopa Troopa
- Luigi
- Mario
- Monty Mole
- Ninji
- Pauline
- Peach
- Rosalina
- Shy Guy
- Spike
- Toad
- Toadette
- Wario
- Waluigi
- Yoshi
It wouldn't be a Mario Party without minigames, and Jamboree isn't skimping on those either. The game will launch with over 110 minigames for players to compete in, whether it's a free-for-all or 3-on-1 endeavor. From the usual games of skill and luck, to motion-controlled mayhem, there should be more than enough ways for players to collect coins and scorn their friends.
Super Mario Party Jamboree is Updating its Predecessors' Format
Jamboree Buddies
One of Super Mario Party's most controversial features was its ally mechanic. This allowed players to pair up with a random Mario character who would give them a number of perks, with some allies like Bowser being especially overpowered.
Jamboree is tweaking allies and turning them into buddies, and making it more challenging to acquire them. With 10 to choose from, these buddies will have unique abilities and give players the chance to double rewards like coins and stars.
New Mario Party Rules
Mario Party has followed roughly the same general rules since it first started. In Jamboree, however, Nintendo is introducing some new rules to switch things up a bit. Along with the usual Party Rules, Jamboree will feature Pro Rules that eliminate some of the luck for a more skill-based experience. It should certainly make for a change of pace for longtime Mario Party fans, and it could do wonders for Jamboree's replayability.
New Co-op & Competitive Modes
The seven boards featured in Super Mario Party Jamboree aren't the only ways to have fun with friends. In this new entry, Nintendo is including a number of co-op and competitive modes outside the usual dice-rolling fun. Whether played online or on the same console, they hearken back to Mario Party games of old that offered more than a few ways to have a good time.
These Super Mario Party Jamboree modes include:
- Bowser Kaboom Squad: Up to eight players work to take down a giant Impostor Bowser as he wreaks havoc throughout a small town. If players perform well in special co-op minigames, they can receive items that make it easier to defeat the shelled menace.
- Koopathlon: In this online-only mode, up to 20 players compete in minigames and race around a course. If minigames go their way, they advance further up the track, with losers risking a fall through the ranks. As the name suggests, it'll be a marathon and not a sprint through this highly competitive mode where every minigame counts.
- Minigame Bay: If players don't have time to traverse Jamboree's boards, they can instead take a trip to Minigame Bay and play through any minigame they want. With 110 minigames to choose from, this mode could be a great way for players to get in some practice.
- Paratroopa Flight Schoo l: In this two-player game mode, players use motion controls to fly through the sky with wings that evoke Super Mario 64's flight mechanics.
- Rhythm Kitchen: The Mario franchise has always had iconic music, and Rhythm Kitchen encourages up to four players to get in touch with their musical side by way of rhythm-based minigames. Jamboree players will cut meat, scoop fruit, and build delectable dishes all while keeping with the beat.
- Toad's Item Factory: Up to four players work cooperatively in this puzzling mode to transport Mario Party items from one warp pipe to another. Using motion controls to move machinery, this mode will require an amount of teamwork that most Mario Party sessions never see.
Party-Planner Trek
Rarely does Mario Party show what goes into organizing all of its intricate boards, but Jamboree's single-player Party-Planner Trek will change that. In this campaign, players will explore five of the game's boards, gather decorations, and interact with other party-planning Mario characters. While playing against the CPU in Mario Party has always been an option, Jamboree's inclusion of this mode offers an alternative for those who want to sit back and explore this new addition to the Mario Party franchise.
Mario Party has almost always provided enough fun for the whole family, but Super Mario Party Jamboree might just have enough thrills for the whole neighborhood. Between all of its playable modes, the plethora of boards at launch, and several options for online and offline play, odds are it will be a worthwhile addition to the series. If Super Mario Party Jamboree gets post-launch support, it could turn into one of the most ambitious Mario Party games of all time.
