Nintendo has officially announced that Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be released for the Nintendo Switch on October 2, 2025. This will be an excellent opportunity for Nintendo Switch owners to try Super Mario Galaxy 2, known as one of the best games in the franchise.
Super Mario Galaxy was originally released in 2007 for the Nintendo Wii, taking Mario across the galaxy in his search for Peach. The title introduced innovative levels with fresh mechanics and became a huge hit, selling over 12 million copies. Super Mario Galaxy 2 was initially planned as an updated version of its predecessor, but it became a full-fledged game and was released in 2010 for the Wii. The second game had a similar level of popularity, fleshing out popular concepts from the previous title and selling over 7 million copies. Both titles are considered among the best ones in the Super Mario series.

Donkey Kong Bananza has a lot in common with Super Mario Odyssey, but there's still one more idea it should borrow.
Nintendo Announces Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 for the Nintendo Switch
During the latest Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will finally be released for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 will be available on October 2, 2025. However, no special improvements for the platform have been announced.
The release of these games on the Nintendo Switch is part of the commemoration of 40 years of the Super Mario Bros. Franchise. During the event, Nintendo also revealed The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, a follow-up to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The upcoming film will be released on April 3, 2026, and playing Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 seems like the perfect way to get hyped for it.
Another announcement related to the franchise is that Super Mario Bros. Wonder is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 with new content. The reveal focused on multiplayer content and the addition of a new location called Bellabel Park, which will have co-op and competitive missions. However, Nintendo also teased that more single-player content could be added to the game’s upgraded version.
Super Mario fans will also see the release of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, which will be released exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2026. The cute-looking game will be the latest addition to the subseries and will see Yoshi entering a magical storybook filled with illustrated visuals. Hopefully, all of these projects will be big hits for Nintendo, and gamers will be well served during the anniversary of the popular franchise.
