Nintendo releases the first update for Super Mario Bros Wonder, providing a fix and some tweaks to further improve the overall player experience. Earlier this summer, Nintendo surprised fans by revealing a brand new 2D Mario game. Known as Super Mario Bros Wonder, players would be venturing to the Flower Kingdom to help Prince Florian stop a corrupted Bowser from taking over the land. However, it was largely the gameplay which seemed to capture the imagination of fans, thanks to the reality warping Wonder Flowers as well as new power-ups like Mario turning into an Elephant.
Naturally, Super Mario Bros Wonder would go on to break sales records and even became the fastest-selling Super Mario title of all time in Europe. With a larger than expected roster of playable characters, Wonder also provided ways to partake in co-op, either locally or through the online enabled shared world system. Players can see shadows of other players and can interact with them to save someone who needs to be revived, an emote wheel for indirect communication, or using standees to interact as well. While the game has nearly been out a month, Nintendo has released its first update for Super Mario Bros Wonder.
The update itself is fairly small, making a number of small adjustments to the overall game. Heart points in Super Mario Bros Wonder are an online mechanic that display above players or objects like Standees. The points indicate how helpful the person has been with common mechanics like gifting items or reviving other players being a good way to increase that total. With this update, Nintendo has made an adjustment so that when a player restarts a level or chooses to exit a course completely, any Heart Points they may have acquire are reset to what it was prior to starting the level.
Surprisingly, Nintendo has opted to keep the rest of the update a bit more secretive, confirming that it has made additions and adjustments to the credits, though as to what exactly was changed isn't known. Similarly, the last part of the patch notes indicates Super Mario Bros Wonder has addressed several issues, though details were not provided on what that actually means.
The short update isn't likely to be too surprising, as core Nintendo franchises tend to be well-made with a limited number of bugs or issues. The quality of Super Mario Bros Wonder has been well stated through stellar reviews as well as nominations for end of year awards like upcoming The Game Awards showcase in December. Nintendo has plenty of game specific nominations at this year's show including Super Mario Bros Wonder, Pikmin 4, Fire Emblem Engage, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
