There is rumor of a special tie-in bundle Nintendo Switch to release ahead of the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The Nintendo Switch will be six years old as of March 3, but Nintendo's latest financial report shows that the Switch has outsold the PS4 during its lifetime, meaning that there is still demand for the console. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is similarly continuing to gain much attention, despite the reported short runtime of the Mario movie. Fans are eager to see Mario realized in an art style so similar to the game franchise, paired with the comedy writing and animation of Universal Pictures’ Illumination studio. With Nintendo’s family-friendly focus as well as the ease of use and versatility of the Switch, growing families will always be interested in buying the console. With that in mind, a Super Mario Bros. Movie Switch bundle would be a great purchase for many children that are being newly introduced to Mario via the movie, as well as pre-existing fans. Gaming and tech deals Twitter user billbil-kun has reported the rumor that there will be a new Nintendo Switch bundle timed to release on ‘Mar10 Day.’ March 10, Mar10 day is known for Nintendo sales. Billbil-kun’s tweet reports that the deal will include a red Switch console, a digital copy of Super Mario Odyssey, as well as ‘something’ related to the upcoming Mario movie. The tweet details that the bundle will cost around €269 in France, with no indication if it will be exclusive to France, or if the offer will be made available elsewhere.
It is worth noting that while this rumored bundle is set to include a bonus tied to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, there is no indication that the bonus item will be exclusive. Similarly, the red Switch console does not seem to be a new edition, as a red model already exists. It is also worth noting that the rumors around a successor to the Switch are continuing to mount. With the Wii launching five years after the GameCube, and the Wii U launching six years after that, followed by a five-year gap until the launch of the Switch, there are signs that Nintendo is generally quite consistent with its new consoles.
The Switch held a unique position as a hybrid game console until the recent release of the Steam Deck, meaning that Nintendo suddenly has a lot more competition in the market. Nintendo consoles haven't been considered cutting edge in regard to performance and graphics since the N64, and seeing as some have hailed the Steam Deck as being somewhat future-proof, this does seem like a prime time for Nintendo to focus its efforts on a Switch 2. With that in mind, some may be quite hesitant in purchasing a Switch now, even as part of a special bundle. Once more, considering the continued great sales of the Switch and the recent addition of Game Boy games, there is still a chance that Nintendo will continue to support the console for some time to come.
