Though he does not always evolve his Pokémon, Ash Ketchum of the original Pokémon anime series does have a few fully-evolved allies. For instance, his Charizard from the Kanto region is one of his most famous companions, especially as it rose from a tragic past. Meanwhile, Ash's Sceptile is calm, cool, and collected, and renowned for its swiftness and agility.

Despite this, there are several Pokémon that Ash never added to his team, either as fully-evolved Pokémon or even as their basic stages. Many of these Pokémon fall into the category dubbed "pseudo-legendary" by fans, due to their amazing battle statistics despite not being Legendary Pokémon. Others are not pseudo-legendary Pokémon, yet have powerful legacies of their own.

Absol Is Able To Sense Oncoming Disasters

Years Ago, Many Believed Absol Caused These Catastrophes

Deep in the mountains of the Hoenn region, a lucky Pokémon Trainer may be able to encounter a Dark-type known as Absol. This beautiful Pokémon is distinctive for its stark white fur, navy blue claws, and a large crest-like horn extending from the side of its face. Absol is very reserved yet compassionate, with the ability to sense any disasters looming near its home. It will appear before humans in order to warn them, though sadly, it was once thought to be the harbinger of such chaos.

Thankfully, many people have discovered that Absol simply wished to help those around it. Ash is one of these individuals, as he encountered a wild Absol that seemingly wished to hurt the heroes after they encountered Jirachi. However, it was soon discovered that this Absol was Jirachi's protector and only wanted to bring it back home. Ash has since met many Absol, but never added one of these powerful Pokémon to his roster.

Hydriegon Is Feared by Many for Its Destructive Powers

Some Say It Was Humanity Who Caused the Dark/Dragon-type To Act This Way

Pokemon Hydreigon Anime

The only known fully-evolved Dark/Dragon-type at the moment, Hydriegon is famous for its terrifying and rather uncanny appearance. Aside from its main head, it also has two smaller heads in place of its front feet. These smaller heads do not have brains; rather, they only know how to bite at whatever is nearby. There are tales of the Brutal Pokémon destroying entire towns, though according to recent Pokédex entries, Hydriegon was attacked by humans for its appearance long ago, resulting in its ferocious behavior.

In the games, Hydriegon is the main Pokémon of Ghetsis, and it is apparent that the Dark/Dragon-type absolutely loathes its Trainer. Meanwhile, Hydriegon made its animated debut alongside Carlita, a descendant of the People of the Vale. Ash has encountered several Hydriegon, as well as their pre-evolutions Deino and Zweilous. Most Hydriegon that Ash has met are with their Trainers, yet with Ash's luck, he surely could meet and add one to his party.

Salamence Is Said To Be the Result of Bagon’s Dream

A Pokemon That Should Never Be Angered

The rare Dragon-type Bagon, though it lacks wings, dreams of one day being able to fly. As such, it practices flying by jumping off cliffs, its head protected by the large shell of rock atop it. Upon evolving into Shelgon, the Dragon-type rests in caves, where it awaits its final evolution. Afterward, it will evolve into the winged Salamence, where it flies through the sky at top speeds due to its immense joy. Some say that this evolution was made possible thanks to the intense wish that the Dragon Pokémon made long ago as a Bagon, influencing its genes.

Salamence is just as well-known for its uncontrollable temper as it is for its longtime love of flying. Despite this, many Trainers have been seen with the Dragon/Flying-type or its pre-evolutions. One such Trainer is Zinnia, a main character in the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Delta Episode; as it was her partner Pokémon, Zinnia's Salamence could Mega Evolve into Mega Salamence. In the case of Ash, he has seen several Salamence, though he never captured one or its previous forms. However, as Ash has experience working with dragon-like Pokémon, he would surely make a good Trainer for a Salamence.

A Dinosaur-like Pokemon That Loves To Battle

Since its debut in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver, Tyranitar has been a constant favorite among Pokémon fans. This dinosaur-like Pokémon is distinctive for its armor-like body, which grants its amazing Defense; however, a wise Trainer knows to keep this ferocious Pokémon away from Fighting-type Pokémon, as it is extremely weak against their moves. Despite this, many Trainers desire to have one of these amazing Pokémon on their team. Upon Mega Evolving, the Rock/Dark-type Pokémon becomes even more fearsome in terms of power and appearance, and will even disobey orders.

Because Tyranitar is often very independent and loves to fight, only a very patient and experienced Trainer can work with the Armor Pokémon. During his travels in the Johto region, Ash and his friends come across a lost Larvitar after it was separated from its Tyranitar parent. The entire group bonded with the sweet-natured baby Pokémon, and though they were sad to say farewell, knew the little Pokémon would be better off staying with its parent than training with them. However, had Larvitar stayed with Ash, there is no doubt that t would become an amazing asset to his overall roster.

Metagross Is an Extraordinarily Intelligent Steel/Psychic-Type

Champion Steven Stone’s Ace Is a Shiny Metagross

While many pseudo-legendary Pokémon are Dragon-types, Metagross is one of the few that is not part of this category. An extremely rare Steel/Psyshic-type originally found in the Hoenn region, Metagross is said to have formed when two Metang combined. As a single Metang forms when two Beldum merge, Metagross possesses four brains working together. As such, it has the intelligence of a supercomputer and is able to calculate its foes' next moves and can even levitate in midair. This fantastic Pokémon can also Mega Evolve into Mega Metagross, during which it becomes much more ruthless. According to the Pokédex, if Mega Metagross senses that it will not be able to defeat an opponent, it will dig its sharp claws into its foe. Then, it begins a countdown until it uses the move Explosion in hopes of making its opponent faint, even at the cost of its own HP.

Steven Stone, the gemstone-loving Champion of the Hoenn region, has a Shiny Metagross that can Mega Evolve into Shiny Mega Metagross. Other Trainers, such as Anabel, Paul, and Alain, have also been seen with Metagross of their own, acting as some of their fiercest allies. While traveling in the Sinnoh region, Ash and his friends meet a wild Metagross and its rival, Magnezone, who love to battle against each other. Though Ash had the opportunity to add both Steel-types to his roster, he chose not to. However, had Ash befriended the wild Metagross, he would have been able to win a plethora of especially tough battles.
