Santa Monica Studio's God of War has produced many great games. Naturally, some of Kratos' bloody PlayStation adventures are better than others.

7 Gaia

Titaness Of The Earth

Gaia God of War III
  • Appears in: God of War II, God of War III

Gaia was the Mother of the Titans, and the second-strongest Titan after Cronos. She is the personification of Earth, and played a major role in the two games she made an appearance in. She is also the narrator of the series.

God Of War_ Strongest Female Characters, Ranked
God Of War: Strongest Female Characters, Ranked

God of War is home to Goddesses, shield-maidens, and female monsters that could give Kratos a run for his money.

By

Gaia made some questionable decisions in God of War III, which ultimately led to her death. There are other gods stronger than she is; however, she was still a formidable threat that came close to killing Zeus and Kratos.

6 Cronos

Titan Of Time

Cronos God of War III
  • Appears in: God of War (2005), God of War II, God of War III

Cronos was the biggest and most powerful Titan in both the series and in classical mythology. The King of the Titans had few rivals that could match his strength. He was able to carry the giant Temple of Pandora on his back for eons, demonstrating his massive strength.

Cronos' sheer size and past feats, such as killing Ouranos, made him a formidable Titan. The only beings capable of defeating him were entities such as Kratos and Zeus. However, plenty of gods have shown greater strength throughout the series.

5 Thanatos

God Of Death

Thanatos God of War: Ghost of Sparta
  • Appears in: God of War: Ghost of Sparta

Thanatos, the God of Death, only makes a single appearance in the series. Hardly anyone dared to enter his domain, and the very few who did were unable to come back. Despite dying at the hands of Kratos, the impact he had on his psyche was immense, as he killed Kratos' brother Deimos.

Even the Sisters of Fate, an extremely powerful trio that could control the fabric of time, had no control over Thanatos. This demonstrates his immense power as a being preceding the Olympians.

4 Athena

Goddess Of Wisdom

Athena God of War III
  • Appears in: God of War (2005), God of War II, God of War III, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, God of War: Chains of Olympus, God of War (2018)

Athena was one of Kratos' long-standing allies throughout his journey in Greece. Although there were Olympians who were stronger than the Goddess of War, she was still superior to Ares, the original God of War.

Athena sacrificed herself to save Zeus at the end of God of War II, which allowed her to enter a new plane of existence. In her Astral Form, Athena was one of the powerful beings in the series. However, this ultimately corrupted her with greed as she sought to become the sole ruler of humankind.

3 Hades

God Of The Underworld

Hades God of War III
  • Appears in: God of War (2005), God of War II, God of War III, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, God of War: Ascension

Hades was one of the strongest Greek Gods in the series, with only Zeus and Poseidon outmatching him in terms of overall strength. The God of the Dead commanded every spirit in the Underworld. Hades had access to a wide variety of abilities while being a physically imposing threat capable of killing Titans.

God of War Bosses
The Hardest Bosses In God Of War

The God of War series can be challenging at times, especially with bosses. Here are some of the strongest in the franchise.

By

Hades would eventually be killed by Kratos after a tough battle against the Ghost of Sparta. Despite his death, Hades showed enough strength to warrant a high ranking among the strongest Olympians in the series.

2 Poseidon

God Of The Seas

Poseidon God of War III
  • Appears in: God of War (2005), God of War II, God of War III, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, God of War: Ascension

Poseidon was an incredibly strong Olympian, with his power only being surpassed by that of his brother Zeus. He was able to single-handedly defeat Titans such as Epimetheus with a single blow. Poseidon could likely have slain Gaia as well, if not for Kratos' interference.

The God of Waters was ultimately bested by the Spartan. However, it is highly likely that Poseidon would have destroyed the Titans' march to Mount Olympus. Kratos may have won in the end, but there's no denying the sea god's strength.

1 Zeus

King Of Olympus

Zeus God of War III
  • Appears in: God of War (2005), God of War II, God of War III, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, God of War: Ascension

Zeus is the God of Thunder, though that is only one of his many prestigious titles. As the king of the Olympians, he is easily the strongest god Kratos faced during his time in Greece. The overarching antagonist of the Greek saga, Zeus possessed unmatched strength that Kratos could only rival by wielding the Power of Hope.

Zeus managed to survive several stabs from the Blade of Olympus. He banished the Titans to the pits of Tartarus, and demonstrated feats of extreme strength that not many others did in the series.
