- Street Fighter 6 continues to add exciting crossovers and DLC fighters as fans await Monster Hunter news.
Two of Capcom's biggest and most popular franchises are crossing over, as Street Fighter 6 has announced an in-game event celebrating Monster Hunter's 20th anniversary. Recently, Street Fighter 6 released the first look at its fourth DLC fighter, franchise legend Akuma, who is set to join the roster sometime in the coming weeks.
With the latest mainline Monster Hunter title, Monster Hunter Rise, having released in 2021, fans of Capcom's legendary beast-hunting series have wondered about when the next big game will come. Questions were answered at the end of this past The Game Awards when Capcom took the stage with an exhilarating reveal trailer for the next mainline title in the franchise named Monster Hunter Wilds. Little else is known about Wilds other than the fact that it's slated to come to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC in 2025. In the meantime, Capcom seems to have more in store for Monster Hunter fans.
On the 20th anniversary of Monster Hunter, Capcom took to Twitter to unveil a Monster Hunter crossover coming to Street Fighter 6 in April. The star of the event is the Rathalos Armor set for players' avatars, which features a giant buster sword on the character's back in true Monster Hunter fashion. The skin is usable in Street Fighter 6's single-player RPG-style World Tour mode, as well as in the online Battle Hub, which will be adorned with Monster Hunter statues and decorations that players can take photos with.
Street Fighter 6's Monster Hunter 20th Anniversary Collab Trailer
The buster sword on the back of the Rathalos avatar armor set seems like it's purely cosmetic and isn't usable in combat. Regardless, the impressive armor set is sure to win the hearts of Monster Hunter fans celebrating 20 years of the franchise. One brief shot in the trailer showed what looked like smaller Fighting Pass items relating to the Rathalos armor. Seeing this, it's possible that Capcom may be planning a 20th-anniversary Monster Hunter Fighting Pass to roll out the new event, as it has done with every other crossover it's hosted since its June 2023 launch. It'll be interesting to see if the anniversary event coincides with Akuma's arrival in Street Fighter 6, who is expected to come sometime later this month or in early April.
It's nice to see Street Fighter 6 receive so many fun and interesting crossovers alongside its rollout of new DLC fighters. As for Monster Hunter fans, with Wilds slated for 2025, gamers may be able to expect to learn more sometime later this year, either at the upcoming Summer Game Fest or at the 2024 Game Awards in December.
