However, when the streamer tried to do similar things in South Korea, including disrespecting a memorial to so-called comfort women, he ended up being stuck in the country as an investigation got underway. Somali isn't allowed to leave South Korea until his trials are completed, but that's only if he were to be found innocent or the charges otherwise dismissed.

Now, a new charge has been added to the list, accusing Somali of creating or sharing deepfakes, which is classified as a sex crime in the country. Somali was already charged with one instance of creating deepfakes, with this now being the second. YouTuber Legal Mindset states that each deepfake charge comes with a potential maximum jail sentence of 10 1/2 years. When combined with prior charges, if found guilty of everything, Somali could end up behind bars for 31 years total.
