Summary

  • Vecna needs a strong storyline in season 5 to avoid being a lackluster villain.
  • The show must give Vecna a new motivation beyond just killing Eleven and friends.
  • Fans are expecting a memorable showdown between Vecna and Max in the final season.

I have high expectations for Vecna's (Jamie Campbell Bower) character arc in Stranger Things season 5. When the hit Netflix show comes back in November 2025, Vecna and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) are going to face off against each other, and I'm certain she will win. But I know there will be some rough moments and huge obstacles along the way. Even the show's season 5 poster suggests death, danger, and destruction in the fifth and final season.

Vecna's backstory is shared in Stranger Things season 4, and there's no denying that he has created a terrifying world full of violent and evil monsters. But, unless he has a truly compelling storyline in the last season, Vecna might end up being fairly lackluster, which would be a shame.

Stranger Things Season 5 Needs A Strong Vecna Storyline (Or He's Going To Be A Lackluster Villain)

Vecna is a fascinating and powerful villain in Stranger Things season 4, and I was horrified to learn that he picks victims who have experienced trauma. I think the fourth season is one of the show's best, if not the most memorable overall, particularly thanks to the attention paid to Vecna's backstory. Jamie Campbell Bower does an impressive job as a character who is dark, evil, and unsympathetic. However, if Vecna isn't given a meaningful storyline in Stranger Things season 5, I think he could be a dull villain, and I'm worried about tha t.

If Vecna's storyline isn't advanced in the new season, it's going to be disappointing. In season 4, fans learned that Vecna has been behind all the tragedies and terrible things that have happened since season 1, but is there more to his story? Relying on this history isn't enough. Vecna's mythology needs to remain strong, and in order for that to happen, viewers have to learn more about him. Vecna needs a new motivation and mission in season 5 beyond just wanting to kill Eleven and her friends. Season 5 needs to add to his character arc, not just rely on old explanations about why he's so evil.

Some fans already think Vecna's season 5 character design looks fairly silly, and I'm nervous that he's not going to be as scary as he was in season 4. I think that, as much as I don't want any of the main characters to be killed, Vecna needs to kill a main character, or at least a minor character who is familiar to fans. That would ensure that not everyone gets a happy ending and prove that he can't be stopped easily. Maybe the final season will introduce a brand new villain on Vecna's team, which would be cool. After watching the teaser, which made me emotional, I'm confident that the battle between Eleven and her friends and Vecna will be well-done, gripping, and exciting. But I still think Vecna needs another reason why he's targeting Hawkins.

Finally, I think that Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) and Vecna need to have some kind of showdown. Even if Max dies in the final season, which is a definite possibility, this could still happen. Perhaps he could come to her in a vision while she's in a coma in the hospital. This dream (or nightmare) sequence would be compelling and emotional to watch and would raise the stakes properly.

Fans Have Interesting Ideas About Vecna's Stranger Things Season 5 Arc

With the fifth and final season of Stranger Things finally only a few months away, fans are coming up with some cool and compelling theories about what could happen to Vecna. Several viewers are convinced that he's going to die, which does seem like the most likely scenario (and I agree with that).

Redditor @Usual-Bag-3605 wonders about the end of Vecna's character arc and suggested:

"While I'm pretty sure he'll die, likely via Eleven ultimately, I think it'd be kinda neat if they worked it so he lost his powers instead and was apprehended by authorities at the end. For him to live the rest of his life without his abilities would be a fate worse than death."

It's interesting to imagine Vecna turning into a human, and this would definitely make for a satisfying ending. Redditor @NerdNucle thinks Vecna will "have something special planned for Nancy" since she's learned so much about his history. I'm hopeful that Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) will have a weighty plotline in Stranger Things season 5 and if she and Vecna face off, I'm sure she'll win.
