The upcoming fourth season of the hit sci-fi series Stranger Things has released its official trailer. The fourth season of the Netflix series, which stars Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, and Sadie Sink, will be divided into two parts. Its first is set to release on the streaming platform in late May, with the second volume released in early July.

The fourth season of Stranger Things will set the stage for the Netflix series' finale. In February, Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer announced that the series would return for a fifth and final season in the near future. Before the announcement from the Duffer Brothers, the episode titles for the fourth season were revealed, and the newly released trailer gives additional insight into some of its titles.

The new Stranger Things trailer from Netflix starts with the setting in Hawkins Lab from season 3, where Jim Hopper (David Harbour) appeared to sacrifice himself to save the town. It also introduces a massive clock that reappears several times throughout the trailer. These opening scenes are accompanied by a chilling voiceover that says, "You've broken everything. Your suffering is almost at an end." It then cuts to Max (Sink), who reads an emotional letter to her late brother's grave about the struggles the group of teens had since his passing in season 3. The trailer then slowly brings the Hawkins gang back together as they become aware of a heightened threat that only they have the knowledge to stop.

The 3-minute Stranger Things season 4 trailer provides brief glimpses at a lot but manages to keep the motives of the new villains and changes in its main cast a secret. Eleven stunningly reveals that she doesn't have her powers, and she is later seen being driven away in a gated van. Shortly after, Max is seen floating midair at the cemetery, a powerful feat none of the others have ever demonstrated. Hopper, Joyce (Winona Ryder), Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer), and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) are all spotted in the trailer, as are several new characters who will likely have some role in the latest threat.

Aside from the threats this group of Hawkins teens has faced in previous seasons of Stranger Things, there have been a number of emotional scenes. The separation of characters has lent itself to a few heartwarming reunions, and Stranger Things season 4 will add to the list. Hopper's hopeful reunion with Eleven and Joyce has the potential to be one of the season's most memorable scenes. The trailer shows Joyce receiving an international package, which may tell her that Hopper is actually still alive.

None of the previous seasons of Stranger Things have been divided into two volumes, and the trailer for season 4 already suggests the Duffer Brothers made the right call. Its trailer has a level of horror that none of the previous seasons of Stranger Things has demonstrated thus far. How these characters will unite to conquer the most formidable threat they have faced yet will be a marvel to see. What it may cost these characters is another question that will be answered as Stranger Things begins its journey to the end.

Stranger Things 4, Vol. 1 will release on May 27, 2022, on Netflix.
