Summary

  • Stranger Things' final season will be released in three parts on November 26, Christmas, and New Year's Eve.
  • There's a time jump of over a year between seasons 4 and 5, new characters, and Vecna threatening Hawkins.
  • Fans may be unhappy about the serialized release, but will likely have to wait for the next trailer to get more details.

Netflix's time in Hawkins, Indiana is coming to a close later this year. Thanks to the Tudum fan event, we know when that'll be and even got a first look at some footage.

Though it wasn't Netflix's first hit, Stranger Things just might be their biggest. While shows like Wednesday, Squid Game, and Bridgerton might have something to say about that, Stranger Things has captured the cultural zeitgeist for almost an entire decade now. The first season of Stranger Things came out in July 2016 and slowly became a bit of a pop culture phenomenon. While the production team behind Stranger Things has taken its time between seasons, fans have learned to be patient while waiting for each new installment of their favorite sci-fi/horror show. Now die-hards know just how long they'll have to wait for the final episodes of their favorite show.

David Harbour's Idea For Hopper Would Have Completely Changed Stranger Things Season 5 & I'm Glad It Didn't Happen

David Harbour's Jim Hopper is one of my favorite Stranger Things characters, and this storyline would have meant a huge shift for the final season.

Netflix used its Tudum fan event on Saturday night to give people what they've been waiting for: release dates and footage of the final season. Of course, they took their time getting there. Netflix brought out Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, and Noah Schnapp to do a little vamping to the crowd, and also found time for recorded messages from Millie Bobby Brown and Gaten Matarazzo. Eventually, they got to the good stuff: a trailer featuring both old and new footage as well as an announcement that the final season would be released in three different drops.

Stranger Things Season 5 Will Release On Three Different Days: November 26, Christmas, & New Year's Eve

Fans weren't too happy that the fourth season of Stranger Things was split into two separate volumes. Unfortunately, Netflix has doubled down on that practice and decided to release the fifth season in three different volumes. Stranger Things last season will drop in three pieces on November 26, Christmas, & New Year's Eve. When it's all said and done, the fans will surely get over it, but stretching out the final season over more than a month (not in weekly releases, mind you) is going to be a very unpopular choice. Netflix must have numbers that back up the decision, but that doesn't make it any easier for fans to swallow.

As for what will be happening in the final season of Stranger Things, that is a bit harder to nail down. We know that there is a time jump of more than a year between seasons four and five. We know that Linda Hamilton and a few others are joining the requisite familiar faces this time around. We know that series antagonist Vecna opened a portal to the Upside Down at the end of season four, which doesn't bode well for Hawkins, Indiana whatsoever. As for more than that, fans will have to wait for the next trailer from Netflix to drop.

Stranger Things' final season is set to debut on Netflix on November 26.
