Square Enix has released a new trailer that reveals the release date for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. Stranger of Paradise is a Souls-like game made by Team Ninja, the development studio known for the Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden, and Nioh franchises.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin was originally announced at Square Enix’s E3 show this year. A demo was released for the PS5 version of the game, however it failed to work for two whole days. While the original trailer was subjected to a lot of criticism due to its writing and graphics, the gameplay was well-received, and many fans pointed out that the game underneath these flaws is fun to play. Now, Square Enix has confirmed a firm release date for Stranger of Paradise, and it seems like the game is coming out sooner than fans may have anticipated.

This new trailer for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin features a lot of gameplay footage in addition to cutscenes that aim to set up the story. It highlights the game’s in-depth job system as Jack, the main playable character, is shown fighting enemies using a wide variety of weapons as well as magic attacks. Special emphasis was given to finishing moves, known as Soul Bursts, that allow Jack to regain MP. The trailer also gives a glimpse of some of the bosses from the game. At the end, it reveals that Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin will launch next year on March 18.

This new trailer does a much better job at showcasing the fast-paced combat, while also giving players a taste of the story. It will be interesting to see how the narrative of Stranger of Paradise compares to the story of Nioh, but combat will probably be the main draw. The demo did seem to give the impression that the battle system will be extremely versatile, which is on full display in the video.

Stranger of Paradise is one of many exciting games that are coming out in early 2022. Team Ninja will probably find it difficult to escape comparisons that will be made to other games in the souls-like genre, especially with Elden Ring releasing just 2 months earlier on January 21. Regardless, with so many games coming out from a wide variety of genres, the beginning of next year is bound to be extremely eventful irrespective of one’s taste.
