As players progress through Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, the difficulty of each boss fight increases gradually. By the time players have defeated the Fused Elemental, they should be just about ready to power through the A Familiar Place main story mission and arrive at the Chimera battle.

Players should be mastering their early game Job pairings at this point and some may even be moving on to their first mid-game Job pairings. To prepare for this fight, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin players are going to want to keep mobility, range, and speed in mind for their spec. Obviously the fight can be completed with any Job pairing the player is comfortable with if the right strategy is used, but some pairings do make the task a little more manageable.

The Chimera is another multiphase boss fight (which all the bosses will be going forward from this point in the game). During the first phase of the battle the Chimera will take to the air and players will have very limited opportunities to strike while the beast is grounded between attacks. That means lots of dodging, ranged attacks, and a quick hit-and-run technique are the best ways to get started until its wings are clipped in phase two.

Stranger of Paradise Chimera Boss Fight Guide

Phase 1

  • Start out by getting some distance and learning the attack patterns
  • Command your allies to attack and deal some damage while Jack mostly stays out of the range and fires off ranged attacks
  • When it takes flight get ready to dodge the charge
  • When it glows blow evade to get out of range of the electricity attack
  • There should be a small window to strike after each landing

Phase 2

  • The Chimera will stick to the ground in Phase 2, allowing for a more aggressive melee approach
  • There are still some very heavy hitting physical and magical attacks, so be ready to put in some distance in a hurry when the attack animations begin
  • The Stone Gaze attack will freeze Jack in place and can be a real death sentence. Be sure to get behind the Chimera and out of range when it starts to lift and indicate that attack is coming
  • Watch where the blue circles appear and stand in between them to dodge the multiple lightning attacks

Otherwise, players basically just need to dodge, block, and not over commit during this fight. Slow and steady is a good formula for success with the Chimera. Be sure to check back frequently for more Stranger of Paradise news, updates, and guides in the coming days.
