How to Increase Gustafa's Affection and Marry Him
For some players, it can take the game's full 1st year to win Gustafa's affection before he accepts a marriage proposal. However, it is possible to speed up Gustafa's marriage timeline and succeed in a marriage proposal before the winter of year 1. The best way to win Gustafa's affection is to give him gifts and show an appreciation for his interests during and outside heart events, like guitar-playing and nature in between and during Heart Events.
Doing so gradually increases Gustafa's affection levels, but he won't necessarily accept a blue feather immediately. Players must wait until the end of Spring year 1 to obtain a blue feather and increase Gustafa's heart meter to around 8 hearts to marry him. Players can check Gustafa's affection levels in the Resident Info tab or in his diary inside the yurt.
Gustafa's Daily Schedule
Gustafa tends to spend time inside or near his yurt by the beach. He wakes up around 9 am and leaves his yurt at 10 am, spending most of the day walking by Turtle Pond or playing guitar under the nearby trees. He sometimes walks to the forest or spends time in town buildings like the Lei-Over Inn. Players can use these times between heart events to give Gustafa gifts and praise his music when chatting. Players can also fulfill any request Gustafa might ask for on the town notice board.

Story of Seasons: A Wonderlife Life's gifts include various items from flowers, artifacts, and food. Gustafa's favorite gifts include all kinds of flowers, milk, milky soup, melon, dishes like curry, and moonlight ore. He won't accept things like fish, mushrooms, wild herbs, or some objects from the mine, like fossils. In between heart events, players can talk to Gustafa and give him gifts. It's best to leave him for a bit after giving a gift and return with another later.
Players may also notice Nami taking an interest in Gustafa after he gifts her something as a gesture of kindness, so regular gift-giving is ideal and can help speed things along.
Gustafa Heart Events and Marriage Timeline
Players don't need to and won't necessarily trigger all of Gustafa's heart events to marry him, but players need to have around 8 heart levels to do so. Gustafa's heart events are triggered by his affection levels gradually rising across the seasons and can take place across random encounters and seasonal calendar events:
Spring
- The first heart event occurs when players leave their farm and meet Gustafa standing by the main river.
- The 2nd heart event triggers after gaining 2 heart levels and when players leave their farm heading towards Gustaf's yurt, with a cutscene of Gustafa playing his guitar by a nearby tree.
Summer
- When players reach 4 heart levels, they can enter Gustafa's yurt and chat to trigger another heart event, praising the town.
- During the beach fireworks festival, ask to watch the fireworks together. This event is also an ideal time to give Gustafa the blue feather to initiate the Gustafa Proposal event.
Autumn
- Exit the farmhouse to trigger a visit from Gustafa to the farm. Accept his offer of a stroll and listen to his music.
- Some players might also trigger a date with Gustafa at the café, but this might not happen if the proposal event already happened.
Winter
- During the Starlight Concert event by Gustafa's yurt, players can watch the skies with Gustafa.
- Gustafa wedding event: Immediately after the last day of Winter year 1. Here, players also get to decide to have a boy or a girl child with Gustafa or leave the choice to chance.
After the wedding, Gustafa moves into the player's farm, and they have a child together, starting a new life on the farm.
