Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is a modern take on the Harvest Moon original title. Players will enjoy familiar gameplay after moving to their dad's old farm and building it up to a profitable business. To expand the farm quickly, they must focus on earning gold, as everything important costs money. One of the best ways to do this is to grow crops to sell raw or use in more valuable meals.
Growing crops takes time, effort, and dedication, as players will be responsible for planting, watering, and fertilizing daily if they want successful and high-quality produce. The best way to do this is to learn what seasons crops are grown in and plan their seasonal harvest wisely based on this schedule. They can also get machines and equipment to maximize their time spent and profits from crops. So, here's a complete Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life crop growing guide.
How to Get Crop Seeds
When players start, they'll have to spend money to make money, and getting crops is no exception. When moving to Forgotten Valley, Vesta's Farm is the quickest way to get crop seeds. Vesta lives across the bridge close to the path leaving town with Cecilia and Matthew.
Players can talk to any of them to purchase crop seeds and fertilizer. Vesta's prices are low, but it does start adding up if players buy animals and facilities simultaneously.
Another way to get crop seeds is to use the Seed Maker. The Seed Maker can be purchased from the Ledger for 30,000G, but players can also get a free one if they befriend Daryl, the local village scientist. The Seed Maker can hold up to 12 fully grown crops and convert them into two seeds.
The last way players can get crop seeds is by feeding crops to Vinnie. Vinnie is a giant, talking plant that lives in Takakura's house after Year Two. He has a friendship meter, and if players talk to him every day, eventually, he will offer to mix crops for them. He can make unique combinations or give them standard seeds depending on what he is fed.
How to Plant and Grow Crops
Several things are needed to plant crop seeds in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life: Soil Field, Hoe, and Watering Can. The farm has two fields ready to be tilled, and Takakura will gift players their first Hoe and Watering Can.
The field closest to the house has low-quality soil, and the other has richer soil. Eventually, players can purchase the third and largest field behind their pasture with amazing quality soil. However, tilling the land requires significant stamina unless players upgrade their tools.
After tilling the land, players can equip their crop seeds and plant them individually or in groups. Planted crops must be watered twice daily for the most successful growth rates. If players fertilize them, the final crop grade increases in quality and is more valuable. Fertilizer dispensers can be purchased from the Ledger, so it doesn't have to be done manually.
Just like in real life, crops only grow when they're in season. The seasons last 10 days, and many crops grow in at least two seasons. Crop growth rate depends on the crops and how often players water them, but it varies from five to eight days for them to be ready to harvest.
If players forget to water crops or leave them planted when they go out of season, the plants will wither and be unusable. The sickle can be used to clear the field, and then players will have to re-till the land. So, learning the harvest schedule is vital to ensure no crops are wasted.
