Stephen King Praised The Life Of Chuck Movie As The Trailer Is Released
On April 15th, 2025, Stephen King posted the trailer for The Life of Chuck on Threads and wrote:
"Here is the complete LIFE OF CHUCK trailer. I love this movie. I hope you will, too."
A teaser trailer was shared in March 2025, and after watching both the teaser and the official trailer, it's clear that the upcoming adaptation will be as moving as King's stories and Mike Flanagan's TV shows like The Haunting of Hill House. The official trailer for The Life of Chuck shows a young Chuck staring at the sky and shows him walking through a hallway, mourning a loved one at a funeral outside in a cemetery, and talking to an older man who encourages him to stay positive and remember that he "has heart." Then, an older Chuck dances in a town square, and the words "Thanks Chuck" appear in the sky. The trailer also shows glimpses of the movie's other characters. However, details aren't given about them, so fans will have to wait until they see the film to learn more about the other people who populate Chuck's world.
Flanagan wrote and directed The Life of Chuck, which follows Charles "Chuck" Krantz (Tom Hiddleston) through three parts of his life. However, the movie does something different, which sets it apart from other adaptations of King's work, whether a horror story or a more realistic yet still sometimes scary one. Instead of showing Chuck as he gets older, Act 3 shows the character at the end of his life, Act 2 focuses on the middle of his life, and Act 3 features his childhood.
The Life of Chuck also stars Jacob Tremblay, Mark Hamill, Scream star Matthew Lillard, Karen Gillian, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Mia Sara. The movie is based on the novella from King's 2020 collection If It Bleeds. The story has three parts: "I Contain Multitudes," "Buskers," and "Thanks, Chuck."
Flanagan, who is a fan of King, talked about adapting King's stories in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in September 2024 and shed some light on what it's like to work with the beloved author. Flanagan said of King's involvement:
"When we were doing The Life of Chuck, we talked a lot before production. He has an enormous amount of approvals on things like casting and other details. But when the movie goes, he stays very far away. He says, “The movie’s yours and the book is mine.”
The Life of Chuck will be released on June 6th, 2025 and King's many fans will get the chance to watch what is sure to be a well-crafted and emotional movie.
