Not many series can measure up to the popularity of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Hirohiko Araki's manga has been a dominant force in the manga industry, and it has withstood the test of time. So far, Araki has created nine different parts, all of which are set within the JoJo universe.
Out of the nine, one name in particular stands out, and that's Steel Ball Run, which is the seventh installment. The Steel Ball Run manga finished a long time ago, but the anime adaptation wasn't announced until 2025.

The Steel Ball Run anime is set to be released in 2026. It will be a Netflix exclusive, so viewers will only be able to watch it on the streaming platform. The Steel Ball Run anime was teasing an announcement for September 23, 2025. Fans had no way of knowing what details would be shared, so they had to wait. When the day finally came, a new trailer was released, which gave viewers a glimpse of what was to come.

The Steel Ball Run trailer included several iconic scenes from the manga. Additionally, the trailer confirmed that the horses won't be made completely with CGI. Since it was the first trailer, it did not have a lot of content. In fact, most frames are filled with different characters to give the viewers an idea of the color schemes. Some fans have become worried because there were a lot of still frames and not enough motion. However, their fears are unfounded. JoJo anime is known for making things more dramatic with such frames, so it's only natural that the Steel Ball Run anime will have the same thing.
The rest of the trailer looks fine, and there is nothing wrong with it. As previously stated, the anime is still early into production, which is why the trailer isn't too detailed. Once the production progresses, the studio will share a much better trailer. Furthermore, it is important to remember that emulating Araki's detailed artwork is impossible even for a studio as good as David Production. The studio's focus will be to ensure that the adaptation is accurate and there aren't any glaring flaws.

In addition to the trailer, the voice cast for some of the main characters was revealed. Fans can find the full cast below:
- Johnny Joestar: Shogo Sakata (Tougen Anki, Wind Breaker, Chainsaw Man)
- Gyro Zeppeli: Yohei Azakami (Clevatess, The Seven Deadly Sins)
- Diego Brando: Kaito Ishikawa (Dandadan, To Your Eternity)
- Lucky Steel: Rie Takahashi (Oshi no Ko, Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku)
- Steven Steel: Kenta Miyake (Berserk, Slam Dunk)
The most surprising cast member is Kaito Ishikawa, who is playing the role of Diego Brando. Previously, the role of Dio Brando was played by Koyasu Takehito, and it's safe to say that he knocked it out of the park with his effort. Some fans may be confused, but Kaito Ishikawa was likely chosen because Diego Brando is different from Dio.
A portion of the audience is also worried about how Netflix will handle Steel Ball Run. Netflix was also responsible for distributing Stone Ocean, and it released episodes in batches. Most fans are accustomed to watching new episodes on a weekly basis, which is why the format was heavily criticized. Netflix has not commented on the release date, but hopefully it will share more information in 2026.
Since Steel Ball Run is releasing in 2026, it has to compete with the likes of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2, Hell's Paradise Season 2, and Oshi no Ko Season 3. All the aforementioned titles will be competing for the Anime of the Year award as well, so it won't be easy for Steel Ball Run to win.
Steel Ball Run follows the story of Johnny Joestar, a paraplegic with a strong desire to change his life. His life finally changes after meeting Gyro Zeppeli, a horse jockey participating in the Steel Ball Run race. Johnny and Gyro soon strike up a friendship and start their adventure.
