SteamWorld Heist 2 is a tactical RPG and in traditional fashion, characters can equip certain items. For example, heroes can change their class if they use a different weapon, and then players can cross-class by rearranging skills in SteamWorld Heist 2. It’s a deep system but players can also use things called Utility Items.
6 Beginner Tips For SteamWorld Heist 2
For those just starting out in SteamWorld Heist 2, here are a few beginner tips to make the early hours of the game play more smoothly.
There are a wide range of them in SteamWorld Heist 2. Some are easy to obtain while others are quite rare. They can heal characters, do damage to enemies, or even give characters stat boosts. They’re like a combination of usable items and accessories in other RPGs. So, let’s go through some good starting Utility Items to keep an eye on.
7 Boots
Move Further On Your Turn
The Boots are a good piece of gear for characters that can’t move that far on their turns. It will increase the movement pattern, slightly, but even a single square on a mission can make all the difference. For example, Judy would be a good character in SteamWorld Heist 2 to equip this Utility Item too.
The further she can travel, the more explosive destruction she can create as a Boomer. Alternatively, Daisy would be good too as she can travel high and snipe the competition thus keeping the rest of her teammates safe. Whoever it goes to, the Boots are a good piece of gear.
6 Grenade 1
Explode Enemies In A Small Radius
Grenade 1 is an odd name for a Utility Item or any piece of gear in an RPG for that matter. That’s because a lot of equipment has varying levels that increase their power. Grenade 2 is a stronger explosive, for example.
On a mission, players can use the Grenade 1 once before it disappears. It will create a small blast radius and anyone within that radius will be damaged. Thankfully, all Utility Items replenish after a mission so there is no need to waste precious Water in SteamWorld Heist 2 by buying Utility Items on repeat.
5 Knuckles 1
A Great Item For Brawlers
The Knuckles 1 Utility Item is great for a Brawler-type character like Cornelius. Brawlers, despite the name, don’t necessarily attack with their fists, unlike the literal brawler genre. Players can have any hero become a Brawler in SteamWorld Heist 2 by buying or finding a hammer and then equipping it.
Class transitions aside, the Knuckles 1 Utility Item will increase melee damage by 1. It’s not a huge boost, but enemies and heroes don’t have a lot of HP to begin with at the start of SteamWorld Heist 2. This piece of gear will also work on ranged characters who automatically switch to melee mode when an enemy gets too close.
4 Reinforced Plating 1
Gain +2 HP
The Reinforced Plating 1 Utility Item is a stand-in for a standard piece of armor in an RPG. Characters can gain 2 HP in SteamWorld Heist 2 once equipped which can be a big boost for some heroes. It’s a good idea to use this piece of gear in two situations.
Equip it to the character with the lowest HP in the party. That’s the obvious tip, but the more broad-minded strategy would be to give it to someone who is on the frontlines constantly like Cornelius. As a melee fighter, Cornelius will take a lot of damage. Even if Brawlers can naturally heal, it’s still a good idea to give them a boost of HP as an extra safety precaution.
3 Repair Kit 1
Regain 2 HP
The Repair Kit 1 is a usable Utility Item that can restore a party member’s health by 2. There are stronger medical kits down the line but this is the standard one for the early game. Once characters get all three Utility Item slots unlocked, players would be wise to equip them all with one healing item each.
Healing is an important part of any RPG. Besides things like the Repair Kit 1, there is a healing spell in SteamWorld Heist 2 called Maintenance Protocol. It belongs to the Engineer class who has a lot of supportive abilities much like a White Mage in other RPGs.
2 Scope
See Your Line Of Fire
SteamWorld Heist 2 is without a doubt a challenging tactical RPG even if players adjust the difficulty level. That’s because most characters have no Aim attached to their weapons. This means that players have to freely guess where their bullets are going to hit.

Here's a breakdown of how to get all 34 achievements/trophies in Steamworld Heist II.
As a Sniper, Daisy is the only exception from the start as her rifles generally have great Aim. Scope is a Utility Item that can add Aim to any weapon though, which will create a literal line of sight. It’s only a small amount, but it’s better than nothing.
1 Sidearm 1
Draw A Pistol For Extra Damage
This final piece of gear is useful for characters that need an extra turn to finish the job. Using a Sidearm 1 Utility Item will draw a small pistol and it can be used twice per mission. The damage won’t be huge but it is handy in a pinch.
For example, Boomers like Judy may not want to use their bazookas too close as that can create splash damage. That’s where a Sidearm 1 Utility Item can come in handy. It would also be useful for Brawlers like Cornelius to give them some sort of ranged attack.
