Developed by Crinkle Cut Games, Discounty replicates the experience of running a discount supermarket. It's a story-driven sim with pixel graphics set in the fictional town of Blomkest. The story begins with the player being invited by their aunt to renovate and manage a small market, a setup that closely resembles Stardew Valley's introduction. Beyond running and expanding the supermarket, players must also explore the town and uncover the mysteries hidden in its alleys. Priced at around $20 USD, Discounty was released on August 21 for Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Discounty's campaign can take 15 to 20 hours to complete, but players can also approach it as a cozy life sim by focusing on decorating and expanding their supermarket. A key part of the gameplay is building relationships with the townsfolk, and these interactions can affect sales, leading to losses or lucrative business partnerships. According to the developer, players can secure local suppliers to maximize profit and strengthen bonds with customers, encouraging them to spend more.
