Steam users can currently try out three games on the platform free of charge until January 26. The trio of Steam games includes FBC: Firebreak, Pax Dei, and No Rest For The Wicked, all of which were released in the last two years. This means that the latest free-to-play Steam games aren't just older titles, but rather newer ones that gamers might not have gotten around to trying yet.

FBC: Firebreak is a 2025 co-op shooter from Control developer Remedy Entertainment. However, mixed reviews led to the title being a massive financial disappointment. At one point, mere months after its launch, there were fewer than 10 people playing FBC: Firebreak on Steam at once, which is a pretty remarkable flop given the developer's credentials. Pax Dei is described as a "social sandbox MMO inspired by the legends of the medieval era" by developer Mainframe Industries, released back in October 2025. This makes it the newest title from these latest free-to-play Steam games. The final temporarily free-to-play title is No Rest For The Wicked, a Soulslike from Ori and the Blind Forest developer Moon Studios. This 2024 title has "Very Positive" reviews on Steam, indicating that fans of the genre really enjoy what it has to offer.

Current Free-To-Play Steam Games

Gamers can currently head over to Steam and download FBC: Firebreak, Pax Dei, and No Rest For The Wicked, free of charge. This trio of games are all free-to-play until January 26, giving players a limited amount of time to hop in and see how they feel about them. It should be noted that these promotions are not free to keep, meaning gamers will have to purchase the games afterward to continue playing. But those wanting a quick free-to-play Steam game could certainly do a lot worse than giving these games a try over the next few days.

April 24 Will Be a Big Day for FBC: Firebreak

Those who play these games and enjoy them are in luck. All three have significant discounts that run until after their free period ends, giving players the chance to pick them up cheaper than usual if they hop in and have a good time. FBC: Firebreak is 60% off until February 5, bringing it down to just $15.99. No Rest For The Wicked's discount runs until the same date, a 40% reduction bringing the price down to $23.99. Finally, Pax Dei is also 40% off at $17.99, although that discount is set to end on February 2, three days before FBC: Firebreak and No Rest For The Wicked shoot back up to full price.

So far, the free-to-play period has yielded mixed results for these games. Pax Dei's player count has seemingly remained around the same, averaging high concurrent numbers of users of around 4,000. FBC: Firebreak has certainly benefited, but it's difficult to call it a massive win by any stretch of the imagination. Where before, the game was averaging double-digit concurrent players on Steam, it has now finally broken through the triple-digit barrier once more, with a 24-hour peak of 335 at the time of writing. It's technically a win, but not exactly a big one. The big winner here is undoubtedly No Rest For The Wicked, which remains an Early Access title at this point. According to numbers on SteamDB, the game was averaging around 2,000 concurrent players daily prior to this free period. Now, though, No Rest For The Wicked has reached its new all-time peak player count thanks to this free-to-play deal. The Soulslike has broken 50,755 concurrent players at the time of writing, although that number is rapidly rising.

Steam is regularly giving out free games nowadays, with players not having to spend tons of cash to build up a solid library of games. While free-to-keep promotions are rarer than free-to-play ones, it's always worth keeping an eye out for the latest giveaways on the platform. Those willing to branch out to the Epic Games Store will find even more freebies on a regular basis.
