Starsand Island Pet Guide

From a capybara to an adorable fox and plenty of cats and dogs, Starsand Island is full of pets for players to love. Each pet will need to be fed and interacted with by players before they can adopt them as their own animal companions.

Whether you're looking to see all the adoptable animals, learn their favorite foods, or you're trying to figure out how to befriend the uninterested Booboo, we've got you covered in this Starsand Island pet guide. We'll give you all the information you need to befriend and adopt all the potential pets roaming around the island.

All of the available pets in Starsand Island

There are 12 animals that players can form relationships with on Starsand Island . The majority of these animals are cats and dogs, but players will have the opportunity to befriend a squirrel, a capybara, a panda, and even a lovely pink fox. Each animal's name and species are as follows:

Nana the cat
Scrappy the dog
Mellowhen the capybara
Meow Alum the cat
Octa the fox
Zippy the squirrel
Bobo the dog

Crescent the cat
Sheriff the cat

There are two dogs named Scrappy in the game. The black and white Scrappy is found roaming through town, while the brown and white Scrappy is adopted from the pet store.

Of these 12 animals, the only one that is not technically adoptable is Booboo the panda. She has her own special interactions and will remain in her home area even after you fully upgrade your relationship with her.

How to Adopt Pets from the Pet Shop in Starsand Island

Players will be able to adopt two pets from Starsand Town's local pet shop, Woof and Wow Pets. Players will find this store on the north side of town. It is only open between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm on each in-game day.

The two pets available for adoption at Woof and Wow Pets are the puppy Scrappy and the white kitten Nana. To adopt them, players must interact with the register at the counter and select the adoption option. Each pet costs 7,500 coins, so make sure you have enough before starting the adoption process.

Players with enough money to adopt a pet can press the Adopt button beneath their preferred pet's description to adopt them. The game will have players confirm that they want to adopt the pet, and then sign an Adoption Contract. After signing the contract, you'll be able to bring your new furry friend home.

How to Adopt the Island's Animals in Starsand Island

To adopt any of the animals roaming around Starsand Island, players must raise their relationship with them to level 3. Players can raise their relationship levels by interacting with the animals and feeding them each week. Once the relationship hits level three, players will unlock the option to adopt that pet.

Animals adopted from the pet shop and the stray kitten will automatically have a level 3 friendship with you when their requirements are met.

How to Befriend Booboo in Starsand Island

Befriending Booboo is a little different than raising your affection level with the other animals roaming around Starsand Island. Instead of immediately petting and feeding Booboo, players will need to gather fresh bamboo shoots and approach Booboo while holding them. Booboo will be excited by the scent of the fresh bamboo shoots and will want the player to feed them some.

The first time this happens, players will need to feed Booboo 15 fresh bamboo shoots. This amount will increase to 25 fresh bamboo shoots on the second and third times, 30 on the fourth time, and 35 on the fifth time.

Every time players complete Booboo's requests, they will be given a treasure chest containing bamboo-themed recipes.

When players have completed all of these requests, their friendship with Booboo will be maxed out. However, Booboo will not give players the option to adopt them. They will continue living with Grumpy and Bao, but players will be able to pet and play with them.

How to Adopt the Stray Kitten in Starsand Island

After accepting the Light Up the Night! Quest and meeting Stella, players will head to the Exploration Club to meet Zephyria. After receiving the slingshot and learning how to break open the Mystic Forest gate, head home and craft a fishing rod. Use the fishing rod to catch a fish in the river by your cabin.

Catching this fish will trigger a cutscene where you meet a stray cat for the first time. Give the cat the fish you caught, then wait for Stella to approach and talk with you about the kitten. When she asks you about adopting it, make sure to respond "of course."

Stella will leave you with a Bamboo Cat Ear Pet Bed recipe. Craft this bed, then bring it to Stella's shop, Woof and Wow Pets. Talk with her while holding onto the cat bed to adopt the kitten named 404.

All Starsand Island animals separate their foods into four categories: favorite, like, dislike, and hate. Feeding animals their favorite foods is the best way to level up your relationship quickly:

Players will only be able to feed their animal companions three times each in-game week, making it important to give them their favorites so you don't have to wait for the next week to level up your relationship.

You can guess an animal's preferred foods by reading their description. Additionally, testing whether they prefer herbivore or carnivore food is a good way to determine good foods to give them.

How to Find Adoptable Animals on the Starsand Island Map

The easiest way to locate any animal is by looking for their icon on the game's map. Since many of them appear in Starsand Town, their icons may be covered up by the town's buildings or the people living there. To avoid this, players should use the Residents button on the left side of the map to directly look up the location of any animal.

After selecting the Residents tab, scroll to the bottom of the Residents list to find all the town's animals. Tap on the animal you want to find to open a window on the right side of your screen with their name and description. Tap on the track button at the bottom of this window to set a waypoint that leads you directly to the animal.

Searching for animals on the map will work even if you've not met them in-game. It's the perfect way to get a feel of where each animal typically hangs out.
